Man you guys are lucky. If i want a hill that nice it is gonan take some traveling. All the hills around here are short and straight up. They are easy cause they are so short. I wanna take a trip to Alabama i think it is for the place on the Huevos Video "The Wall"

With Greg Little in it. That looks like fun.

thats a awsome picture.
Do 400's make it up ?

Sandgod4
10-28-2002, 04:49 PM
Here is the FACE of Sand Mtn. The other is called the Valley. 400ex's can get up the valley side crawling along. They can't get up the face..

Rip_Tear
10-28-2002, 05:44 PM
I am sure a 400ex would make it up the face if they started from far enough back... and with some real nice mods and serious gearing.... a little NOS might not hurt either.... Heck might aswell just get a toe from a JET...:D

Sandgod4
10-28-2002, 05:56 PM
A 440 can get up when starting in the chutes which are to the right of the tree. A 400 might make it halfway starting in the chutes. A 400 can get up starting another 50yrs back and getting a 4th gear run. I can pull third a little more then halfway then shift dwn to second for the rest. I start in the chutes. Many motors are seized on this badboy!! Go to www.dunereview.com under vids or www.planetsand in the Utah section on page two. These are vids made by me of the hillshooters..

BrianWrightR6
11-05-2002, 11:37 AM
It is behind my house back in the sticks, the hill is strait up also. The only thing that got you up it was speed. There is no way I would try it on a 400. Just can't build up the speed fast enough. I used to climb it on my Banshee (4th gear pegged about 65mph) and that was a rush, all I ever seen climb it was some banshees and some dirt bikes. It might have been a good thing that the tree fell over on it, that way it did would not live up to its name. Here is another look at it.

We have several hills like that around here and I'm about the only person out of everyone that I ride with who has climbed all of them. The only other person that I know who has climbed very many of them was my father and he did it back in the late 80's and early 90's on a 3 wheeler so everyone who is scared of BIG hills needs to stay away from where I ride. Now I just need to get a sport quad to go with the utility and I'll be showing everybody up. I already do on the hills and in the mud so I just need the softer ride and extra speed for the trails I don't show everyone that I can outride them on.

here's a pic of the tallest one where i ride, its about 30-35 foot high at about 45-50 degree angle. i've went down this hill but not up it. i have other hill that are not as big and steep that i go up. there fun when it's muddy. i get a nice rooster tail of mud on the way up.:D

300exryder
11-09-2002, 05:47 PM
how long have you been riding -- you should be able to make it up that hill - dont be afraid just hit it with enough speed and coast to the top

Honda2003
11-09-2002, 06:03 PM
i'm still a Quad Newbie. got it new Oct. 22nd. only been out on it 3 times. you can't see it in the pic but there's alot of roots and rocks sticking out going up it. when they don't effect going down though. there's even a dirt drag strip.

What is that on the side of that last hill? I have had my 400ex for exactly a week and I have only been on it once... :( Its been horrible out, -10 C snow harshly, and when it hasn't been I have had to chop fire wood! I hope to go out tomorrow!

Nice hills, I don't have to many steep hills by me but there is this one it is stright up and you have to ride it slow because it is like an irrigation ditch with some crates across and you just have to lean forward and pinn it. My friend on his kodiak has to use 4 wheel drive to make it up!

i wish i could get a couple pictures of Mascot Hill on here. man it's awesume! it easy until about half way up. there are ruts then it gets pretty steep. then it's virtually straight up at the top. my dad tried it and got to the vertical part. he downshifted cause it was bogging and it stod up. there was a guy at the top watching. thank god he jump down and pulled the grab bar back to the ground and we were ok. it scared me so bad cause i just got it a week before.
