i am on a 300 right now and am racing, i am riding it about as fast as it could go right now and think its time to move up, i am going to sell my bike for about 2500, long story short, i like 450s but cant afford them, and i am more comfortable on 2 strokes anyway, so i am looking to buy a 250r for a somewhere around 2500, i was looking, i can get a 250r in decent condition with minimal mods(pipe, nerfs) for 2200-2500 or i can get the type that has been sitting since 1993 hasnt been started in 15 years, looks like trash, for 1000, is it cheaper in the long run to get the good one for more expensive or buy the cheaper one and restore it to a racing condition, oh yea i race xc.

I would look for a nice one with mods already on it... modding a R is cheaper than modding 4 strokes, but from experience i think its alot cheaper if you get a modded one for a good price

i was still wondering how competitive a 250r could be at xc, keep in mind i will start out in c or ameteur class, how is a 250r offroad compared to 450s? the deciding factor would be the under under 150$ top end rebuilds

I had a 300ex, wanted more, found any way to get more power out of it as in riding it, clutching, and stuff, I started riding that thing like a 2 stroke.

Finally found a 250r after looking for one for like 10 years. Got it and love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get the modded ones, I was gonna buy a guy I knows that needed carb rebuild, top end rebuild, bushings, brakes, new swinger then I'm like, by the time I buy it and fix it I'll have 10,000 in it, it was race ready like had a motor that was all built for ft, by FTZ, and geared and beadlocks and nerfs and everything, but I waited and found a better one that was all finished, fresh and ready to rip!

And 250r's are fast you can kill the 450's, at least I have. And they rip. No joke get ready to get yourself ripped.........................................fro m yourself. When I get on it, I'm like, how the hell am I still on this thing, mines wheelie happy too.

yea thats what i was hoping, i sold my rm125, and i wanted a change so i decided to get on a quad and i got a 300ex, its a great bike but i definitly want more, and i have only been riding it for about 3 or 4 months, i am pushing it to its limits and i want to sell it before i get to comfortable and blow it up. i want a 2 stroke for sure, i hate the engine breaking and the way it is so predictable, it is boring. so i am hoping to ride it until the end of september then put it up for 2500$. by then hopefully it will have a 400ex front end and a wider axel. but anyway, then i am hoping on buying a 250r, i was hoping for a 88 or 89 but would go for anything. its good to hear it is competitive, that is what i was wondering
