My friend recently bought a raced out z400. He was told it was a 440, but I know the kid he bought it from and he's been telling me, he lied to him, and it's really not a 440. But then the kids dad tells me it really is. I asked if they had any recites of the motor work, but they said they did it them self. Is their anyway I can tell if his bike is truly a 440 w/o opening the engine up?

Did they bore the motor themselves?

Does the z400 require a new sleeve for the 440 kit? If so did they put that in themselves?

His father is a mechanic, so he can do all the boring and stuff. Yes, he did do it.

I'm not sure if the 440 requires a new sleeve. I guess, I will have to ask around on that.

Z400's have sleeveless, plated bores. So if it does have a larger piston it could have been bored and replated OR it would have required a sleeve installation.

I can't think of any way to tell for sure what the bore diameter might be that would be any easier than just removing the head.

bore diameter should be some where around 96, stock is 93. and 450's run 98's soo, im not an engine expert(yet) but i'd say u have a chance it could be somewhere in the 96 ranger, i just say open her up and look but thats me.

That is a terrible way to tell because the bores and strokes could all be different... a 400ex stock bore is 85...:rolleyes:

Take the head off and look!!!

Ask the guy how they did the 440 kit, if they installed a sleeve or what... thats the least expensive way as far as I know.

haha dude ur so wrong, the stroke on a ltz400 is the same as a trx, and a LTr , so shut the pie hole but i was off on the bore of a 450 there around 96 not 98 and the stock ltz has a 90, so i would guess some where in the 93 range, and it was just something for him to go by:grr:

It's not something for him to go by

LTZ400 = 90.0mm X 62.2mm = 395.7cc's
TRX400 = 85.0mm X 70.0mm = 397.3 cc's
trx450 = 94.0mm x 64.8mm = 449.69 cc's
LTR 450 = 95.5 x 62.8 mm = 449.83 cc's

LTZ440 kits use a 94.5mm piston

94.5 x 62.2 = 436.25 cc's

You wanna admit you were wrong now?:blah:

Well you're OK in my book as far as this forum goes, because 9/10 people wouldn't admit that. Just use a few minutes before you post something like that and SEARCH! You can find anything anywhere on the internet. If you dont know, just ask. I'm PMing you.:p

Dylan simple answer to that question, send that z440 down here and let me ride it, and then let me race it with my 400, and we will be sure if its a 440 or not, after all I know what they feel like.. :D
