I'm looking for the right answer to my question about finding the right size of tires for my Mustang. I'd love to type it all in here, but it is probably easier for you to read it at another forum that I posted it at in which I am getting mixed opinions. Let me know what you think.

Thanks.

most cars, as a rule of thumb, run all four the same size..... although yours is in the sport category Rwd, you should run an inch or so taller in the back....

So if I run 275/40/18 in the back and 245/40/18 in the front, the back end will be 0.8 inches higher than the front (according the tire manufacturer's website (going by overall diameter of the tire).

But is running 40's too much of ricer look where there is no tire and is all rim?

Just remember that the 2nd number (in your case 40) is a percentage. Therefore, if you go with 275/40/18s for the rears, your sidewall height will be 40% of 275, or 110 mm. That's not too low profile for such a wide tire.

The ricers you are talking about run 35 or 40 series tires but on a narrower tire (maybe a 215 or 225) which would give them a lower profile.

I think the sizes you are looking at should look really good.

I have an 01 mustang GT and I run 275/35/18's on mine right now and its not at all rice and fits the car great. What size wheels are you going with? Mine are 18x9's but I plan on running 18x10's on the rear and running 305/30/18's. If you need pics I can get you some

The rims I have are 18X10 bullitts for the rear and 18X9 bullitts for the front. I think I am going to go with a new set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercars. I checked on the overdiameter of the tires I have right now (stock) and they are 27 inches. The new sizes of tires that I am going with now are 285/40/18 in the rear and 255/45/18 up front that give overall diameters of 27.0 in the rear and 27.1 in the front which is very close.

But yes please, post a pic of your car.

a 275/40/18 will be approximately 26.5" tall and 11" wide the 245/40/18 will be 25.7" tall and 9.5" wide IMHO that will look pretty sweet. I think putting a tire that is 1" taller on the front will be very noticeable and not look very good at all. Just my .02.

heres a pic of it with the 18's on it.

its not the clearest pic but you can see how much of a side wall is with the 275/35's

Also, ever considered a little wider tire for the rear? Here is a pic of my 17x10.5's I used to have with 315/35/17's. Dont mind the car, its the ground that is making it lean like that:
