Ok i jetted my 400 today.I was told the plug should have very lil carbon on it when its right.OK Heres what i have. The airbox lid is open and covered with a outerwear and on the filter. The pipe is stock but ive cut the two baffels ot from the inside and still have a stock endcap.I just took off the choke also. Then I went to a 42 pilot put in a new plug and wound up with a 158 main. The plug still has a lil carbon on it but nothing like it was at 148stock.I may try a 160 and see if it clears up the rest on it.Or am i getting to high on the main jet.Seemed like the bigger the jet i went the more i had to bak out the air mixture screw. Is that right also? What should the plug look like? Thanks for any help.s

The plug should be a light tan if done and adjusted correctly. 160 main may be a little fat you may want to remain around 158 or 155 this could eliminate the agressive adjustments on the air/fuel screw. Also the air fuel shouldnt have to be adjusted much after making this sort of mod, maybe a 1/4 turn ouut more thats all. :)

Also make sure you're only looking at the porcelain on the plug. The rest is usually black and that's normal.

One more question.I think my rings may be about gone.It smokes, but not as bad after rejetting. It was really rich.Would this cause the plug to get black too???Or am i not jetted right yet?Oh yea im using a fair amount of oil too.Im getting a rebuild soon as i get the cash.either a 416 or 426
