we just got another questionaire regarding Codys wreck at the big buck gncc in april. thats the only wreck we said was on a atv, the other trips to the ER we told them it was a motocycle to keep from hearing the typical doctor and nurse BS about atv dangers.

funny how we never got a questionaire after those visits

Do the doctors tend to hassle you about atv related crashes more than bikes?

On all my trips to the ER or doctor I say mountain bike accident. I don't know if it makes a difference or not.

Yeh no joke, don't even waste your time goin to the hospital if your gonna say it was ATV related. LoL.

Pappy would probably attempt a nose dive off a 3 story building to save a camera like his =p

Why?

because there are so many atv accidents, mainly due to inexperinced riders or careless riding. when my dad broke his ankle few years ago hilclimbing on his quad the doctor told him that they get at least one person per-day with a atv related injury. i live in a town of around 25,000 people with riding area's in every direction you look, pretty sad seing people riding without helmets:ermm:

i think the reason atvs get such a bad wrap about being dangerous is because they are so much more rider friendly for the inexperienced.

someone that is inexperienced or has never even rode an atv or dirtbike is more than likely going to take the easier thing to ride the first time which is the atv. it doesnt require balance to ride around the yard or down the road and a fully automatic transmission is almost standard on most 4 wheel drives today.

so with more inexpereinced riders probably riding atvs then a higher percentage of serious atv accidents are probably reported.

hell, i might be totally wrong but thats just what i think right now

the first time i was in the ER i told them it was atv related the guy nurse helping me was like i have a raptor and we sat and talked till 4 in the morning when i got released...but he sometimes will call me to ride but i never can get a ride to where he lives.....but then the female nurse was talking to my dad and was like sell it there called organ doners in here same with those motor bikes (street bikes) that go 100 and the people fall and expect to be the same after it and my dad was like nah lady my son loves what he does and she got snippy and then left

agreed and well said..
remember the idiot reporter that smashed that utility into the other parked quads.. she breifly had the impression "it was just like riding a bike"..

Pappy.. do you think the questionaire was for insurance claims or statistical data?(probably both)
just curious..

That was very well said gncc025.

everything you do has some type of danger, if you choose not to respect what can happen, it usually does happen.

I agree, beginer atv's are almost too easy to ride
then you get people who want the fastest thing available for them or their kids even though they have never sat on one

start them out young on something they can control

sad when I see a couple 6 or 7 year olds riding around the campgrounds with no helmets/shoes on dads grizzly darting around cars and trucks.

not that the intoxicated parents noticed

they asked about what type of riding, what gear, how the gear performed, and if he was age appropriate for the atv. it was from blue cross blue shield so my gut tells me its both statistical and possibly the start of some form of claim denial IF we were to start racking up visits. Cody has been lucky and only had 2 broken bones in almost 4 years of racing. on this particulair claim every piece of gear he was wearing was damaged and destroyed but did its job.

id agree with gncc025 with regards to ease of operation leading to many injuries for new riders etc, fortunatley for cody thats not the case. hell, when i went to the ER for my foot that doctor asked what i was riding and how i wrecked (i was wearing a atv related shirt)

I've been incredibly lucky in the fact that everytime i've had an ER visit or any kind of ortho specialist they always follow MX (bikes) or even actually ride themselves.

Here in PA they tend to get the cops involved too if you tell them it was ATV related.

Mountain bike, fell out of a tree while trimming limbs, down the stairs, etc. Never an ATV.

I've always told them ATV riding on MY Private property. Nothing they can do or say about it.

I went to the ER the other day. My first mistake was that I told them it was ATV related. The second mistake is I told them where it happened. My riding group has always talked about, if you go to the ER, tell them you were on your own property.

If someone is trying to have a riding area shutdown, they could make their case with how many wrecks have occurred there.

After I had my leg shattered , my orthopedic surgeon told me he says a ton of ATV related accidents and kind of gave me hell for doing so.

About a month later when I saw him , he told me he had just bought a new quad. I gave him chit for giving me chit ... he told me to shut up ( jokingly) :p
