Well last race I blew my 4th gear and that took out most of the tranny. I am just wondering if anyone else has had a problem with their tranny on a 06/07 motor.

PS its getting fixed and im putting in a Hinson clutch and running Rotella oil.

Heard of them quite a bit, 3rd and 4th seem to be the problem. Mine is getting a tranny mod right now to prevent this. I would suggest it while you have it apart. Check out Moto-Xperts.com

really? I switched to it not to long ago and its been running amazing. I do get a false neutral every once in a while but thats because i dont shift completly like if i hit a bump or something.

once in a while I "chicken shift" and hit neutral going from first to second, good thing I always launch in 2nd when drag racing.

alot of people on this web site and alot of 450r's
its starting to look like there are not too many tranny problems

I agree I push mine about as hard as anyone could push it and the only problem I have is caused by me. I probably shouldnt say that now its gonna shell a gear.......

Do you race MX? I have come to the conclusion that I bent my shift fork from either casing a jump or landing on the shifter when i landed a jump.

I do ride a little MX but also do all the other stuff. Sounds like its very possible thats how you could bend a fork.

NICK I FEEL YOUR PAIN BUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this year i have had my motor down three times for the transmission alone and once for a blown crank/top end--- it started for me in third gear and in between 2nd 3rd and 4th all started shifting funny,,, not at alll,,, jumping//// and then it just locked up. its not fun--- i have replaced everything in the tranny side last time------ and the time before that i replaced 2nd 3rd and 4th and the shift forks and drums,, the time before that just the shift forks and drums.

Ya, I replacing 1,2,3,4, the drum, the fork, gaskets, blah blah blah. My tranny never locked up and I can probably reuse 1st, 2nd, and 3rd but they will eventually go. Also putting in a new clutch, stock kit with hinson basket.

Now on to Moto-Xperts.com like someone suggested before. Well called the guy and tried to talk with him about it, he said he cant tell me what he does but assures me my problem wont happen again if I send it in. So idk.

Nick, Toby @ Moto-Xperts is both the mechanic for Pro Broc Lyons and Cody Anderson. I just took him my engine last week. He has done porting, carb tuning, and revalved my rear shock and I have been extremely happy. He wouldn't tell me excatly what he does either, those guys like to keep their secrets. He told me I shouldn't have any problems once the mod is done.

Hendershot106 I believe all he needs is 3rd and 4th gears. You will have to call him to double check. The price is $90. Call him up and tell him Dave sent you.

did anyone have the trans mod done and did the installing themselves? anyone with any pictures of this trans mod done.

i wonder how hardening the gears might help. i know some 250R guys were doing it on their big bores.

Friend of mine lost 1st - 3rd on Sunday and his Son lost 2nd -4th about a month ago.

Seems to be happening more and more.

Both are 06 450ER's

Hmm maybe we should all write letters to Honda, or get some kind of petition started showing all the people who have had problems.

I have 2 2006 TRX450ER and been through 2 gearboxes on both. The 3rd to 4th gear mesh causes the problems. the dogs on the 4th gear shear off and destroy the rest of the gearbox. I am a Honda factory rider here and was told its the way i ride. i always use my clutch(hinson) and never crash gear change. most of the Honda riders here use the 04/05 motor in the 06 chassis because of the tranny problems of the newer 450's.
We are still trying to find a solution to the problem..

I pick my engine up tomorrow with the trans mod done. I think these mods will be the fix to future problems.

DGS you should have the mod done and test it out.

Bringing this back because my tranny went for the 2nd time about a month ago. So im seeing if anymore people have sent there trannys to Moto Xperts, cause mine is going to be heading there soon.

Dave- how is yours holding up?

Dave400ex

Not a single problem with my tranny. He'll be getting my motor to go through pretty soon so I'll find out how they held up then.

Sounds like Sparks is just putting a coating on them. I know Toby actually modifys the gears.

Nick110

Maybe Tobe could modify the sparks gears.

Dave400ex

That is something you would have to ask him. I know Toby could have DLC coating put on the gears as well.
