im looking at getting into racing and everyone says a 400ex is a good starter quad/racer. i found one around my area for $1,995 with Works front shocks, Pro Armor front bumper, A-arm skid plates, ITP Holeshot front tires, Maxxis Razr rear tires, Renthal bars, FMF Megamax 2 exhaust.

Is that a good deal?

thats a real good deal.. just make sure you inspect that quad very carefully..

99s are in the 13-1,500 range now but it has a few mods too? if the condition is fair and the motor is solid i say try to jew'em down and get it!

but back to topic.. for the mods and if its in good shape thats a real good deal.. but id still try to talk him down a bit

just check simple stuff. make sure it doesnt smoke when its running
wiggle the front tires. like push them towards the quad if it wiggles thats not good.
make sure he has oil in it.
and pull back and forth on the bars to make sure the bushings arent out

Remember a 1999 model is getting up there in age for an ATV. Even though Honda is known for reliability they still need some general maintenance to continue the reliability and when mods are added the more likely the quad was ridden more and or harder.

Look it over closely and Good Luck!:)

I wouldn't pay that much for it if it was clean.....

We sold our 03 zuk for $1750

We've also bought running 400ex's for as low as $1000 and that was probably 5 years ago.

shoot throw another $800 or so on $1900 and you could get an 04....lol

that is the best thing to do. two-three sets of eyes are better than 1 anyday. i recently went with a friend to loo kat a dirtbike. kx250 03 for 800 bucks =0. the kid had to sell in the next week or giv it to some1.
