I run 18's in the rear and i ride a little mx but mostly trails. Would dropping a tooth in the back be to much since i'm already running 18's?

Thanks for the quick response. It should add a little more jump off the start also right?

How would you gain in the top end if you drop a tooth. You will gain a little more low end torque.

not if it's in the back. if its in the front and you drop a tooth then it will give you more low end power. if you drop a tooth in the rear it will give you more top end power.
if i were you cuz i do the same as you, a little mx and trail riding. i would drop a tooth in the front first, it will give you that much more low end on the track but still wont hurt you in the trails. worked for me.

Didn't anyone ever ride a bike with gears before? (pedal of course...)

haha ya exactly. the smaller you go in the rear the harder it is to pedal so dropping a tooth in the rear will give you more top end not more low end.

idk about u guys but normaly when u drop a tooth ur talkin about the front which will give u more acceleration. less topend

ya but he specifically said i wanna drop a tooth in the back so im guessing he's not worrying about the front.

if you mostly do trails yes cuz you will lose alot of top end but for mx i would say your alright.
