Guys,
I have ridden a 250r for the last few years and have paid no attention to the 4-strokes. I am now in the market for a yfz and have no idea what year to look for. What year is best for the money and why? Thanks for any input. BTW, I don't race, but I have to be faster than my buddies, so I am looking for a killer trail bike.

i wouldnt get anything older than an 06... the older models had the smaller motor and a rock hard seat, and a few other things were updated in 06... an 07 would be nice for the oil mod, but i wouldnt spend tons more to get it if i was you... i think you should be able to find an 07 for around 6k OTD if you shopped around...

i would look for an 07' because these bikes have seen a good bit of changes since the earlier models...

06 or newer for sure. The 05 was hard as a rock.

I just retired an 04 that won a boat load of XC races, but I have to say buy the newest one you can afford. Heck between 05 and 06 yamaha reported over 80 changes to the quad. Where there really that many, IDK but there were a heck of a lot (Head, crank, carb, electrical, swingarm, rear shock, rear linkage, rear brakes, ergonomics. Just to name a few). You got to figure they are making them better every year.

Bought an 05. I found it for $2500 a couple of hours away. Picked it up yesterday. The stock tires still have the stripes on them. The guy bought it new and wrecked one time...hard, and then didn't ride it for over a year. It rips, but needs TLC on the looks.

i know u bought one already but these ppl make it sound like the 04 and the 05 suck. both of those years are still really good bikes
