You know... **** mods, read this

did you evr think, instead of dumping hundreds of dollars on perf. mods, for the same price, u can get a yz426 motor to make a hybrid 400. a liquid cooled, 5 valve, 45hp motor, easily upgradable. **** mods, 800 for 36hp, not to mention air cooled, 4 valve. Dont get me wrong, i LOVE the 400ex motor, its one of the most durable engines i ever have laid eyes on, the owner of the quad b4 me ran it w/o oil for months, now that i have it, it runs w/ oil and runs strong, like it was never touched, but they are expensive to mod up. Does anyone agree w/ me, i think i have my mind made up, but tell me what u think.

my friend did the same thing and it runs amazing. the 426 revs so fast.

I just did this and wont go back, My motor is only a YZ400 but it still runs damn good!... Revs so high and pulls hard!.. You can buy a kit to mount a YZ400-YZ426-YZ450 in a 400ex frame from ss440ex. He only has 2 left so if you wont one i would jump on it now!

i like kick start, no electrical problems then you can just kcik the thing and start it, but i like electric start too

If you are gonna do that, you might as well go on Craigslist and find a YFZ450. Then you'd be doin' it right. The frame is not meant for a dirtbike engine anyways....Good Vibrations! You want faster, get a faster bike. Thats my take. :rolleyes:

the 426 motor sits in the 400ex frame with few mods. i dont think the yz450 motor would fit as good. plus itd b more expensive

what hes saying its just get a yfz450 but im sick of ppl with 450s telling everyone to get one i dont have money for one i was lucky to get a 400ex for 2 grand and then putting a little money as i had it at a time, when i have money ill buy one but i would rather buy all the parts and put the 450 or 426 together then buy it all hooked up.

i like the yzf for speed and the 400ex for jumps and mx.. i guess puttung the 2 together would be my perfect bike.

a yzf motor in a 400ex body.. that would be a pretty good ride. i like the height and ride of the 400ex better than the yzf.

yeah excaclty my dad doesnt excactly like quads so why is he gonna dump 4 grand into a nice yfz or trx or ltr or kfx so i can just dump more money into and ask for more. He would rather me fix my own problems on a budget of my own money, or I pay him back by giving him labor which is fine with me but i would owe 400-500 hours of labor for a yfz and im good with the ex b/c i get to ride whenever i want instead of the days of practices and races.

how does the yz400 compare to the 426 are they the same just bored cause if that is all ill try to get a 400 and put the piston in it but when i do it im buying the whole bike so i know it runs and is jetted right and will just fire right up and that way i have every thing i need except motor mounts and then just part out the rest

I'm not real sure, but I think there's more to a YZ426 than just bore. It's definately a newer motor, with fewer flaws, and i think that's why it's saught out. I would go with that plan of action, but I think I'm just going to get by with my 400 until i get cash to drop on a 450. I'm not taking out any loans for a toy.

the 426 will beat them if its running rite. my buddy has one and it runs amazing. its a 450 killer. but they put any motor work into a 450 and itll smoke the 426.
