not if you torque them to 7ft lbs.

Dido,

They are supposed to ...

Get a torque wrench and dont worry about it anymore.

Over tighten something and blame the material? There are torque specs for a reason;)

The pinch bolts for the carrier have a spec of 15 ft. lbs.:)

Don't over tighten them and warm the engine up before you remove them and you won't have any problems

after i bought it i changed the oil and the oil filter cover bolts were on very tight. my dad had 2 help me and one broke. how much does a torque wrench run? we have a big one but it doesnt measure that low.

Mine was $59.00

You can get them cheaper but I don't recommend it. Its a tool you will need with this bike...with tools you get what you pay for. Get a good one.

Also mine does 5 ft-lbs up to 100 foot lbs...

Dont worry about needing to go on the high end but you need one that goes down to five. Alot I have seen are 10-100 or 10-75

You need 5 - something

Hope this helps

Hardware stores, Lowes, Home Depot, and auto parts store typically have them. Also sears. Walmart does sometimes, but they look very cheap...i dont think I would buy one of those.

You don't need a torque wrench to change your oil. Just don't tighten the bolts too tight. Just snug them up and you will be fine.

Also don't forget an inch-lb torque wrench. I simply torque them to 48 in-lb (lighter then spec, but I'm consistant.

i have a friend who thinks everything should be tighened with the biggest wrench possible and as tight as it can go...needless to say he stripped both of his. it is an ez fix though. at auto zone they have the heli coil type inserts, but it is more like a little spring. just buy the kit and the drill bit size recommended drill it out re tap it and use the tool provided to thread the insert in. after that you are good to go. i fixed his it really didnt take too long. but like said above everything has its limit and with aluminum it is very ez to overtighten. btw the red loctite is a better choice:devil:

Loctite 222 (purple) is perfectly acceptable on these bolts.

There is NO need for loctite of anykind on these bolts they are not that tight.

Maybe so but I still don't recommend using it due to the many accounts of people snapping and stripping these bolts.
