How much can I do to the intake and exhaust before I have to get something more than a cherry bomb? Can I run an exhuast and foam filter with just a cherry bomb?

You should be fine with just an exhuast and filter mod and the Cherry bomb.

Now if you put in items like the FuelATV intake, piston, cams, or any other high performance mod on the engine you might want to look at either getting the Yosh PIM and FIMAK or the Power Commander so you're able to adjust the EFI.
