i bought my bike used, a 01 400ex, and used hard id say lol.

anyways i was told it had stage one cams.. no way to tell though, and a uni filter.

but anyways it bogs, unless u have the revs up, if im revving low and give it fuel it will bog like crazy, i figure because of cams?? sound normal, or a jetting issue?

i ordered a hmf pipe and a 150, 152, and 155 jet to try so ill put that on this weekend.

i cant check my plug easier, as i dont have the gay wrench needed. and the dealer doesnt carry them

yea sounds like your a tad lean on your main jet... but i would just wait untill you get the pipe to re-jet

and as far as jets go i would start with the 155main and throw in a 42 pilot.

id say its more than likely a jetting problem. ur carb might have dirt in it to. that be my best guess

for your plug use an 18mm deep socket. well thats what mine is anyways.

ive tried several different ones, all too big.. i need the proper honda one i guess.

it runs great once the revs are up, no bog, no backfire, etc. meh, ill give it a good cleaning when i change jets anyways

yea, it sounds like a lean condition, but id also check your accelerator pump in the carb. i thought i had a jetting issue because it wouldnt take fast blips of the throttle, turns out my accelerator pump wasnt working, lucky i had a extra carb layin around:)

there is a way to check to see if you have a hotcam in it.

take the valve adjustment caps off the top of the motor and the flywheel cap (allen style plug) on the shifter side case. remove the spark plug so you can turn the motor over by hand easier.

put a socket (i believe it's a 17mm) on the flywheel bolt inside the timing hole, turn counter clockwise and look inside the valve adjustment holes at the cam. it should say Hotcams on it somewhere.
