The 50 has been smoking alot lately and burning oil. So today I bought a compression gauge.

It only registered about 75.

What now. We have a race Sunday and I need to have it fixed ASAP.

Thanks,
Darrell

Hey, If any of you nice folks could help me out.

Could you list the order of parts that I need to remove to get the engine out.

Thanks

no need to pull the engine.
power wash the engine area and front suspension
tip the bike up on its tail, so the engine is straight up
remove the exhaust front section
remove the 4 10mm head screws
remove the head and head gasket
carefully remove the cam chain
just kidding
slip off the cylinder
stick a rag into the case opening
remove one of the piston pin clips
push pin out
remove piston
reverse process with new parts
the trick in reassembly is keeping the ring proper positioned on the piston while lowering the cylinder onto it. you need to squeeze the ring to compress it, and the chamfer on the bottom of the cyl should help lead it in.

piece of cake. done between heats all the time.

I-zapp,

Thanks a bunch. I did it with no problems. OK now I see that the top of the piston is black with caked on stuff (bad I guess) Is that burnt sand or dirt?

If it was dirt, does that mean any got into the crank area also. Does this need further cleaning or does it fix itself. What other damage could this have caused?
Thanks for helping a rookie out.

Now, I just need to wait for my parts and put them in.

Your ok, the black stuff is just carbon buildup. It is normal when you've done a lot of easy riding or running rich. Or haven't done a rebuild in a long time.:)
