I am in the market for a 450 and i found an 06' that appears to be very clean and the guy selling it says he has had only 5-6 tanks of gas through it. Dont know if i believe that, but anyways my question is about the motor. When i start it up, the bike the steering stem vibrates a little and the motor has noise to it. I am hesitant to call it a knock, because i have rebuilt bikes before. Is this normal. The sound is either in the jug or head inmy opinion, but it could be the crank. Anyways is the honda just loud at the motor>?

Yeah, when I got my brand new 06 the guy fired it up to drive it onto my truck and I couldn't believe how loud the engine was compared to my 400.

The motors are loud, especially the 06s and up due to short skirts, but it should not be vibrating that bad........sounds like the cranks is going to be an issue.

What i'd do, go to a dealership and act interested in buying one, ask them to start it up and compare it. I know one thing i notice a lot more over my 300ex is the vibration i feel. The motors are loud and sound very unique i guess you'd say. I know i've had my dad comment on how it sounds, wondering what's up, but it's been that way since i bought it and she runs real good :)
