I race my 400ex in the 1/8th mile on asphalt. The best time i have run is a 9.90 at 63mph. The motor has had a rough life before i got it, and it is time to do something about it. There have been more quads coming to the track, and most of them are 450r's. They are running low 8's, so my question is should i build my 400 motor so i can at least keep up? I also have a gsxr750 motor that i bought to initally put in the quad, but i know if i do i will only be able to drag race it and won't be able to ride trails any more. So let me know what yall think would be the best thing for me to do.

i say go all out.. fully build your 400,,, fst makes a 500 kit,,, i dont know what your budget allows..

like you said with that gsxr750 motor is will be a mostly drag bike...

its really up to you i thin you should build the 400.. you can squeeze a good bit of power out of them

that my opinion

I would just rebuilt the 400ex to like a 440 or 460, then put like a 450r carb on, hot cam stage 2-3, and all that stuff. For the gsxr750 motor i would find a old fourwheeler frame like a 300ex frame or something and put the motor in it, so you will have a 440-460ex and a 300ex/gsxr750 to drag and ride in trails.

go with the gsxr for drag racing and run 7. 0s and around 100mph

i say just build the 400. its gonna run. my bro put a 416 in his with everything else u could do to it and it would smoke 450s. also if u just build the 400 ull be able to have some fun on the track or trails. with the gsxr like u said ull only be able to drag and i think that kinda defeats the purpose of quads in the first place.

IMO

i agree. build your 400ex so its still reliable. then make a project. gsxr motor in some random frame and build it from the ground up with old parts. put a wheelie bar on this thing that looks like trash and smoke all around. or u could spend a good bit of money and build so its cleeeaaan and then again smake all.

Do you think i will be able to run with, or beat the 450's if i go 440. I already have a edelbrock carb, full white bro's exhaust, ported head, and a tc rev box. I always beat them off the tree, and usually run with them till half track and then they say bye bye. I just want to be able to run with them.

i think ull deff. be able to keep up with them as long as theyre stock. but as soon as u go against someone with motor work i think ull get beat.

I can top out my 400ex at 72MPH easily in a 1/8th mile completely stock. If you wanna go real fast get a big bore kit, K&N, jets, full curtis sparks and a rev box.

thats not even close to being possible with a completely stock 400. theyll do 65 max

Mine does 71mph on gravel, so it is possible.

I also have one and mine DOES go 71. One of my friends has a radar gun and he clocked me going 71 pinned.

There is no way of telling how fast you are going through a video camera and my quad isnt stock. Look in sig

And I have nothing to prove to you, so just drop it.

I got a 400ex check my sig. for mods. The best I ran in an 1/8 th was 9.67 @ 67 mph. My buddies 700 Raptor would only run a 9.10 @ 69 mph. If a 450 is running low 8s they must be a 450 Banshee. I raced my brother on his 450 w/ 2 people on the 700 raptor and passed him in 4th gear.

I had a CTS-V that had a couple mods and it wouldnt run a low 8 ever. It had the z06 vette motor. This thread is like a fishing story. It just keep getting farther from the tuth

Wow, there must be something wrong with that raptor if it only can go 69. My friend has a 2006 raptor 700 and his goes 76 with stock gearing.

He blows by me when I hit 4th gear in a drag race. But w/e I guess its just the driver.

Im sure it will do over 69. This is in an 1/8 mile.

maybe my quad has a cam which I think it does. I bought it off a guy but never opened up the engine, I run with my buddies banshee and i beat my brothers 400ex with a pipe and all. Maybe I have a cam and dont know it. Also top speeds depend on a lot of things. Outside temperature, oil thickness and stuff like how cool the motor is. Also clean air filter. 400ex really bogs down when the airfilter is dirty. I'm telling you they can go 72mph stock.

check my sig for mods but my 1/8 mile times are as follows with stock gearing and 18 inch american racers tires in the rear of my 03 400ex

reaction .51
60 ft 1.96
330ft 5.72
594ft 8.55
1/8 et 9.21
mph 67.88

I'm debating on buying an fcr 39mm to see if it helps any.

An fcr carb will wake your motor up, especially with all the mods you have. I know it really helped mine.

Would the FCR carb be better than a 450 carb

That would depend on what year 450r the carb came from. The 06 and up come with a 40mm FCR carb.
