What the title says. I never been hunting and I want to go so bad this season so I have to go out and buy a rifle and scope.:macho

I use an M1 Garand (bottom of pic) open-sighted so i can learn to get closer to the deer/whatever im hunting(it will help me as i get older hunting) and my dad uses a 1917 Lee Enfield. Sorry i dont have pics of the Enfield :( .

We got 11 or 12 M1, no lie. Its fun to shoot but not my cup of tea for a hunting rifle. I was thinking more of a 30 06 bolt action.

I am in no way a "super shooter" or anything but you may want to take a wider stance when shooting that Garand. It would give you a better base for the recoil. Just hate to see you miss something cause you couldn't get your site down for a second shot. JMO

The top gun is actually a mini-14 i know what you meant.We have 2 of them, ones stainless its our coyote gun,its got a mil spec scope on it.

You have nothing to be nervous about... but i on the other hand...we have one but since i'm lefty when it ejects the mag it hits me square in the forehead...so when i get close to the last shot i usually flinch expecting it get hit in the face with a hot piece of metal...

but i must say the M1 Grand is a great rifle.

here in the great state of texas u dont need one,they do a background check on u, but i have my concealed handgun lisence so i walk in tell them what i want fill out the paperwork and pay for it and walk out same day with it

My dad had a Springfield 03 with a long scope. I forget which one it is but if anyone of you guys seen Saving Private Ryan, it was the same scope the sniper had. We use to bring that to the range and shoot and my dad and I would leave with cuts above our eye. Thats one hell of a recoil that gun has.

Hey, I know this is old but, In Pa you do not need to have a hunting license to buy a rifle. You do need to be 18 I believe.

You need to be 18 or older to buy a rifle. I never heard of needing a hunting license inorder to buy a rifle, that makes no sense. Although you can be 16 and go hunting by yourself. Is that true?

Plug you need to take a hunters safty course to get a hunting license.

I use a Howa 1500 .270. Black stock with a stainless scope and barrel. I'll have to pull it out and get some pics sometime. It is dead on accurate. The last dear I shot was 267 yards away according to my range finder. It's a good gun. Haven't had any problems with it and it's killed a good bit of dear. I've had it since I was 13 I believe.

I couldn't find the standard 1500 on their website, so here is the youth model just for reference. Still looks the same, but the youth is shorter.

yea where I hunt, it used to be an old farm. I was amazed that I even shot it. Scope on power 10 and being very very very still in a tree stand.

i love the rem 700 action. ive owned many rugers but dont like their triggers even after having them worked. i had a ruger in 22-250 that was drop dead accurate even after 20,000 rounds (5 shot strings at 200 yards all touching, small ragged hole) but still prefer the remington actions.

i just picked up a new remington model 504 22 today, damn fine squirrell gun and i cant wait to try it out.

I love shooting 22s. I have a Kimber 22. Its one of the best 22s I have ever shot. Cooper makes nice looking 22s. Last summer I picked up a CZ hevey barrel for 300 bucks. I stuck a 4x scope on there and I was out shooting my bros Rem that cost twice as much and a I believe 6x scope at 100 yards.

rem 700 is a great action, the gun itself needs some things done to it here and there for better accuracy, alot of sniper rifles are based off of a 700 action, now for me i love my savages they shoot tight shots out of the box and the accu-trigger is amazing

My personal rig: Ruger M77 Mark II in 7mm Rem Mag topped with a Leupold Mark 4 3.5x10x40. It shoots around an inch at 100 yards and has taken deer out to 300 yards.

I love it! I have used it for close to 10 years and killed countless deer with it from 25-300 yards. I put a Timney trigger in it a few years back and that shrunk the groups up a lot. It isn't the lightest gun but for the kind of hunting I do it works perfect. Just to give you an idea, these are the choices I have when I hit the woods. Ruger M77 Mark I in .270, Savage in .300 WSM, 2 Savages in .243 (mine and my brothers fist rifles), Ruger M77 Mark II in .260 with custom barrel work done by Montana Rifle Co., and then my 7mm. Between my brothers and I we own 4 savages and all of them shoot tight groups. They newer ones with the accu-trigger are real nice and priced affordable. They are a little rough in the looks department and the actions are not the smoothest but when it comes to accuracy and putting deer in the freezer you can't beat their price.

savage is doing it right, if you want a nice gun for the price thats where its at, i say the only thing you need to do is take off that 13 dollar stock and spend some cash and get a nice stock for it, after that you should have no problems

yep it puts off some major heat, its not one for 3 consecutive shots and still remain a tight group, the barrel gets hot after 1 round and to remotely get a tight group its gonna take u 3-5 mins to take 3 shots haha

My 7mm Mag is a puppy. I'll take it to the range and run 40-50 rounds through it and not even flinch. I've shot a lot of .270's and 30-06's that kicked harder. The 7mm is more like a shove where as the others are sharper hits. The .300 WSM is a beast though.:p It is a light gun to begin with and is just violent when it goes off. Lots of muzzle blast. I've watched as my brother has touched it off across a marsh right at the end of shooting light and it is a sight. But it puts a hurting on whatever is on the other end.

The 12 shoots like you would expect any gas operated semi 12 would shoot.

The .308 is not as accurate as many bolt guns of the same caliber, but I have attained 2 inch groups off-hand at 100 yards, and consistent "kill zone" shots at 200 yards. Not bad for AK action. Good enough for me.

hey pappy is that the land where u killed your deer at in the back ground. do you have any good deer recipes for the grill, my wife doesnt really like it, so i have to try to cover up the flavor a little, and i dont want to spend all the money for processing. good to see some kids doing the after work, kinda reminds me of when my dad and me would cut up our deer.

i killed that 9 pointer about 100 yards to the right of where the picture was taken, if thats the land your refering to...its my front yard:D

no huge fancy recipes, we usually use it like burger or steak and never look back. when company is coming over, the wife will cook it with onions and tomatos etc. some soak it in butter milk or marinate it in italian salad dressing etc. it is a super lean meat so it will dry quickly when cooked, and when most people say they dont like it, usually over cooking or bad processing is to blame(gamey taste etc)

on the grill, i like to take a loin and wrap it in foil with some bbq sauce, onions, garlic etc and let it cook slow, but our favorite is plain old rolled in flour and pan fried with onion. we also make chili and tons of deer stew over the winter months. as of late, we have been making all our own jerkey and sausage but we still have hot dogs made locally (we get 200 dogs done each year and they are the best you'll ever eat!!!) its funny when we have people over for a cook out and someone will not touch deer meat but will slop down 3 or 4 dogs:devil:

From our experience, the 700 has always been a dead ringer right out of the box.

LOL, my wife insisted that she hated game meat.

I took her over to my parents one night, while we were dating, and my father cooked up some nice steaks. I asked her how everything was and she commented on how good it was. I then told her what is was and she could not believe it....

amen to that, out of 100 remington 700 rifles that i have owned or worked on, only 1 comes to mind that did not fire sub MOA out of the box. that rifle was a rem 700 in 300 win mag that the owner couldnt get to group after many different trips to the range with different ammo etc.(the guy is a decent shot) i bought it from him for $500 and the following weekend it was pulling 1/4 inch groups at 100 yards. the problem was in the bedding and in 20 minutes i had it fixed. he bought back the rifle after seeing it tighten up, carried that fall to canada and killed a nice bear with it.

all production hunting rifles in my expierence will group MOA out of the box if you feed it the right ammo and know basic gunsmithing to check the bedding etc. i handload and havent bought factory ammo for well over 20 years.
