Cool Head Questions [Archive]

I recently picked up a spare motor to use for another build, but will be parting most of it out. One thing that it came with was a Pro Design Cool Head, but the dome that it uses has spirals machined into it. If anyone knows what the spirals are for, or perhaps who did this type of mod, it would be appreciated. I'm planning on selling this and would like to provide as much information to on lookers as possible. Thanks in advance!

idk what those spirals are, but if its suposed to be like that then i will be intrested in this for the right prices

i think its called a power star dome?? think the design is supposed to cause turbulance for combustion???

Its prolly there to mix the fuel/air better.

I think TC Racing came up with the PowerStar design, but you won't find it on their website (I looked).

I can't imagine it's complete junk, because TC Racing is big enough that they'll do some R&D before they release a product. They wouldn't release it if they saw a decrease in power output.

At the same time, it also never caught on as the greatest thing since sliced bread, so I doubt it was a huge fantastic improvement.

I've never tried one, but if I were to guess, I'd say it probably performs as well as any other head of equal CC.

yup, also nac's racing use to sell them, i dont know if they still do, i cant get to their site from work. the turbulance that it adds is spose to keep from hotspots forming on the piston crown as well as more fully burning the fuel that gets pumped into the cylinder. i dont think they were designed to add power persay, as apposed to just helping an engine be more reliable at the same power level.
