alot of diff types of porting are available

ask the shop doing the port work or someone who has had it done at that shop.
the porting needs to match the rest of your mods to get the most out of it.

ic. i dont no a whole lot about it. but my dad owns a performance shop for cars. so when i rebuild my motor i will take it to the shop and get the port and polish done there, by either my dad or one of the other mechanics. they know what there doing so it should get done right

just because you can port match a intake/head/exhaust ports on a small block chevy dont mean you can do it to a single cylinder high performance atv motor.

your rolling the dice having the auto shop port your atv

good luck

lol ive got nothng to worry about. theyve done port and polish and pretty much any kind of work u can imagine on all different types of motors from a civic engine to a 700ci drag engine

I'd be careful with a shop like that...odds are the people probably haven't done the research to get you the kind of results you are looking for on your particular engine. Granted, you may get lucky, but you will probably get a port job that will not match your bike correctly. A buddy of mine had the same thing happen with his YFZ (took it to a local shop to have it done), and the port job made his bike slower. They ended up having to go back in and have a "respectable" builder re-do the engine so that it would work properly.

In any case, the numbers that you will be making can vary quite a bit. Different setups, dynos, more importantly the fact that every engine is different....I'd rather not just spit numbers out. There is a dyno section that can give you some ideas, though.

Also, just to add, I would do at least a cam before doing porting to your head. Even though porting can make a big difference in an engine, you are wasting your time and money by having it done now on a stock engine when it could be ported later on to match a more free flowing engine. Not to mention a cam in these engines is a must compared to the porting which can be tricky.

ya iwas thinking about puting in a new cam to. the i see what ur saying about how ishouldnt bother with port and polish on a stock engine. but im rebuilding my motor so i figured any engine work im guna do i might as well do it now. and since it is my dads shop it will be free to do that.

a wise man once said "you get what you pay for"

not always but sometimes free means "half arse"

I can build a bad arse small block chevy but I would not attempt to do my own porting on my atv.

o believe me i know what ur saying. im guna find out if this guy knows what hes doing b4 i get anything done. im sure he does tho cuz hes a specialist at building engines and stuff. and plus hes in to dirt biking and that kinda stuff so i think he knows his stuff with small engines to

not to be rude but...if the guy knows what he's doing...why didn't you ask him how much more power you would get.....just a thought..

haha cuz ihavent even asked him to do it yet. i talked to my dad about it, who is the owner of the shop. and he said that he would get one of our engine builders to do it because he has alot of experience with that kind of work. i plan on getting the work done but because i wont be doing it until the winter i havent finalized all the plans
