I found a Silverado doen the road, its a 2004 with 34k on it, 4x4 with a 4.3 v6 for 10900. The truck is immaculant condition, and worth a lot more than that. My questions are, will this truck be underpowered, i know the 4 3 is a great motor, i have one in my blazer, but will it push a silverado around. and second of all will it be able to hadle 33s, and pull a trailer with 2 quads on it?

The 4.3 is a really good engine and will be able to pull most trailers just fine. The 4.3 in my dad's Blazer with highway gearing was able to pull an 18' car trailer with a 1/2 ton truck on it. If you are thinking about putting it on 33's I would look into some serious gearing changes and power upgrades.

i would hold out for the 5.3... you'll be happier in the long run trust me...

Fullsize, 4.3, 33's and a trailer is a bad combination.

I would also have to say that you should try and get the 5.3. A whole lot more torque and you'll be getting around the same gas mileage.

youll be happier with the 5.3, but im not sure i would turn down that deal its a good one. How often are you gonna tow might be the biggest question. If its 2-3 times a month for 50-60 miles id still do it.

What's the bump for? I think we answered all your questions...

It'd be worth it to just wait to find a good deal on a Silverado with the 5.3L but the 4.3 is an excellent engine that will be able to handle most of what you throw at it except for those 33's paired with towing, etc.

If you plan on putting 33's on it and towing a trailer a lot I would not recommend the 4.3L.

yah- with my 5.3 z71 i get 15-16 in town, i've gotten as high as 20 on the freeway, but usually in the 17-18 range... and pulling my 4k lb trailer plus 2 quads i get 11-13 mpg... i would be surprised if you got the same mpg wihtout a load, and there is no way you would get anywhere near with the load...

well i just talked to my dad. he wants me to buy it. i pleaded my case, and we came up with this. the truck is like new, and its an awesome deal. I would be putting my wheeler on back, as we got an 01 HD, if we need anything bigger. I probably wont do anything to it, except maybe 45 deg pipes out the back , and an intake. but other than that, nothing cosmetic . so in the morning im going to get the truck, and then when its time to get a new one, my dad and i are both going for '10 trucks, which would leave me with a better trade in than i have now. so it comes down to a beautiful truck, that can o waht i want. for a good price. thanks for a ll your input

My buddy and I got 16.5 mpg hauling all our riding gear, two quads on a trailer, and my other friend hot rodding it for quite sometime. I'd say the newer 5.3's get pretty decent gas mileage.

As for that 4.3, it's going to have to work harder to move that truck, especially with 4 wheel drive, so the gas mileage is probably going to be around that same range if not worse.

how do you figure that blows? i know several people with 5.4 f150s that get 12-13 mpg with an empty truck...

my buddy has a motorhome with a diesel pusher engine in it, and he gets 8-9 mpg...

pulling a trailer that has a dry weight of over 4k lbs, plus water and etc, with 2 quads on my rack, with the font half of bed filled with fire wood, and the back half filled with a generator and gas cans, doing 70-75 mph.... im plenty happy with 11-13 mpg...
