i picked this carb up recently for my wife's 2005 300ex. im going to be putting on sparks full exhaust, K&N, and this 400ex carb.
i know its a 400ex carb but how do you indentify the year. it was told to me as a 2001 carb. but, it only has 1 vent tube coming off the side where my 400ex has two that connects together. can anyone tell me how to tell the years on honda carbs?
this is what stamped on the side QB10aanh and has a #40 slow jet and a #165 main jet. the carb looks like it has never been on a bike but the main jet throws me off. thanks

is there a site or list to tell you years of the carb with the stampings on the sides?

QB10AANH indicates it's either a 99' or 00'. The carb got some minor changes between 99-00 to 01-04 and then to 05+. But they are all so close to being the same they can be considered to actually be the same.

thanks for the quick reply and information. is there somewhere to look up carb specs for hondas?
anyone have any suggestions on a starting point for this 400ex carb on my 300ex with sparks exhaust, k&n air filter, open lid?
main jet starting point?
needle setting? etc?

thanks again. im new to the board and have read up on alot of great information from all of you.

i did the 400ex carb swap on a 300ex for a buddy of mine.. for the ease of it, and the cost (free) because i had the carb laying around, it was worth it IMO. it felt snappier all around and pulled greater.

I jetted with a dynojet kit, i think i dropped the needle one clip with a DJ 135 main. It took a little bit of experimenting, and it always started hard because the pilot was way to big.

thanks. I have been working on the carb getting it ready to go. I have the sparks exhaust, filter, fitted lid, etc. Im using the same intake tube as it fits well on the 400ex carb. Hopefully the wife will see the difference as she wants the power my 400 has.

stay tuned for the results

and thanks again for the help.
