if some of you are like me and split a lot of cases but $150 for a case splitting tool is a little high for you here is what i done. i bought a cheap auto harmonic balancer puller. it is shaped in a triangle with the large center bolt that will push on the crank. both case halves have 8mm holes in them for the bolts that go through the puller. since 8mm bolts in the 5 to 6 inch length are hard to find i made my own. i bought 2 of the longest 8mm bolts that are threaded all the way. i cut the heads off them. i them bought 2 3/8" thread rod couplings and a length of 3/8" all thread. i cut 2 pieces of the all thread in about 4" lenghts. i threaded the 3/8" rod into the couplings and then threaded the 8mm bolts in the couplings. you have to force them but it will work and they will be tight. now you have the 8mm bolts to go through the puller into the case. i use bolts and washers on the other end that goes through the puller to adjust to the right length. i have used this tool for 3 years now and it works great. if anyone wants i can post pics later to show you what it looks like.

here is a pic of the tool. i will post 2 more with it in an old set of cases. i realized when i got it out of my toolbox that i had used 3/8"x3" bolts instead of the all thread.

you will notice in the one picture that the case has a crack in it where the tranny gears go. that is what will eventually happen if you dont run a tranny saver. if you are lucky you will just break the gears but a lot of times the cases will end up like this. this case also has the hole where the rear bearing goes that is broke out too. i an talking about the roller bearing not the needle bearing. the webbing is very thin in this area and lots of times when the bearing goes it breaks the bearing housing too. been there done that a few times too.

Yea, I have the puller. All I need is the bolts. I guess that beats tearing the crap out of the end of my rubber mallet beating on the crank.

another little homemade tool i use. crank seal installer. buy a 10 foot section of 3/4" pvc. i use the gray electrical pvc, it is not as brittle as the plumbing pvc. cut you a 12" piece and walla you have a seal installer. when that one wears out cut you another piece

When should you install the seals before or after the cranks in the cases and it's all together

i always install the seals after the crank is put in and the cases are put back together. the pvc slides right over the crank too.

I was afraid you were going to say that. This was only my second crank and I installed the seals first just like the first one. The first one turned out ok I hope I got as lucky this time

The motor runs fine but.................. he said it was making a squealling sound after the first moto and the whole second moto but I didn't hear it. But I heard it tonight. When I knocked the bearing in the left case it like almost fell in could the bearing be turning in the case ? I've never heard a jog motor sound like this. And it's only after it gets hot. What do you think boys? I think I'm going to order a case half on Monday.

Etondaddy, get both case halfs. cases are matched. there is a good chance your old one will not match the new half. ei./cyl deck and intake deck are machined together.
