Hi All, I had a sidewall blowout on my front stock tire about two weeks ago. I was climbing a small hill and didnt see the rock shaped like a dagger that was halfway up the hill. It put a 3" gash in the sidewall, it was flat in seconds. I had to drive about 1 mile back to the house through some nasty terrain. That was fun.
As soon as I got back I realized how vulnerable I was with the two ply tires so here is what I ended up getting.
Tires - ITP XTR 25x8x12, 25x10x12
Rims - ITP Type 4 Black
Skids - Aluminum Products full skid package
Kevlar CV Boot covers
I put the tires on today and finally got to go for a ride after work.
These XTR tires are amazing. I can actually steer better now. The traction is really good too.
I did not notice any power loss with these tires.
On the trails I rode tonight there was no pulling of the bars to the left or right while going through rocks, roots, ruts, mud, or logs. I heard alot of stories of this tires doing this and as far I saw, it is BS.
The Aluminum Products skids are well made. I looked at Ricochet Skid Plates and they are nice but I liked the coverage of the Aluminum products better.
The installation was not too bad. I think it took me about 2 hrs to get them all installed.
I also bought the Kevlar CV boot covers. The last thing you want is a torn boot when you are in the middle of no where. Get some, they are cheap.
Now installing the Kevlar CV boot covers is a different story.
Make sure you go to a hardware store before the install and buy a bag of 14" zip ties.
Trust me, you will need them.
Thats all from me for a while. It definetly feels good to be back riding the Grizz again, man I love this bike.
Here are some pictures while I was out today. You can see the skids, rims, and tires.
