i just recently put a jet kit on my 400 n i did exactly wat it said and i used a 165 main jet and 3 notches on the needle and sometimes it blue smokes when you satrt it and when you are driving full throttle and let off it smokes real bad can anyone help me and tell me what to do

Blue smoke--def is burning oil. I have 2000 EX and it does the same thing (at those same times).
As long as there is oil in the engine and tank it'll be fine.
You may need a rebuild or just some valve seals. Jus make sure you always check the oil b4 u start her tho!!!
Sometimes if I mix in one of those octane boosters in the gas it won't burn as much--just an observation tho.

Wouldn't valve seals be an easier and less expensive repair?

thats true joe... personally id rather throw in some rings,, just because the head intimidates me a little bit :ermm:

Throwing new rings on a motor with bad valve seals is like throwing gas on a wildfire....




Okay, that may be a bit of a stretch but i hope you get the point;)

yea i know that...;)

well if it was me the first thing i would do is do a compression or leakdown test, if thats up to spec.. then i would tear into the head and replace the seals...

what year is the bike?

and if you bought it used the guy before you must of ran the living piss out of it?
