i was wondering what you guys would recommend i want a faster atv and for a while i was looking at 450rs for around 4000 but now a guy down the road from me is selling a 400ex, its bored to a 440 and has some other stuff done to it and he wants 2000 but would a 440 keep up with 450s cause i wanted to race some local stuff sometime, or would you buy a 450r for 2000 more?

Just jump right up the 450, then you can go from there.

I own a 440, and have ridin several 450r's.....

take it from experience....get the 450, just as fast, if not faster and its built better to begin with...your better off to buy the 450 the first time...:)

(450R HONDA nothing else) no Yamahas no Suzukis no Bombaradiers no Polaris no Kawasakis and no Artic cat LOL....Yeah get the 450R and be done with it,youll be happier with a 450 rather than a 400 espicaly if you want to race it and im biasis so if you want a HONDA then go for it if you want any other manufacture then go.......no j/k but anyways i hope you make out allright.

go with any 450 you feel comfortable on i like hondas but i had a yam its whatever you feel comfortable on and the way you ride any 450 would be a better choice than a 440 i had one and theres just no comparison

i know alot of people are saying 450r but look at the price difference. 2 thousand dollars is alot of money to have an ATV that is SLIGHTLY faster. Not to mention the 400ex is a very relieable machine! Another thing to look at is resale value. The 440ex wont drop much in value, where as in a couple years from now a 06 or 05 450r will drop alot in value. I say take a ride on the 400ex and see what you think. If the ex is in good enough condition i would say pick it up!

yea i rode it the other day but i couldnt get out of second cause it was in the guys yard. Is it a big problem if it doesnt idle when in gear with the clutch in, it idles in nuetral fine but in gear it doesnt:confused:

a 400ex is stock trim is a very reliable machine... a 400ex modded to be not much slower than a 450 is a different story...

and i dont think the 450 is going to drop all that much... there is a reason why the 400ex is so cheap- everybody wants a 450 or raptor

the clutch probably isn't adjusted correctly.
