whats a good aftermarket carb for a 300ex. i have a 400ex carb on it now, it done good with just a pipe and filter on it but now that i have added more to it it wont run right. i have a sparks exhaust, 12 to 1 piston, web stage 2 cam, ported head and promcom cdi on it. now it wants to blubber off idle to about 1/2 throttle. it has a 150 main, 40 pilot, and needle in stock position. the pilot seems right as it starts right up without using the choke and does good on top end so i think the main is right. just want a good aftermarket carb to replace the 400ex carb.

The 400ex carb should be more than enough. I really can't reccomend any other carb over it. Especially for the $$$.

If you're blubbering in the mid-throttle area then you need to adjust the needle.

My 400ex carb does just fine on my 330ex. You can see my jetting in my signature.

yea i knew it was in the needle but it is such a pain in the butt to adjust the needle. all the plastic has to come off then the gas tank to get the carb off. i cant believe you have to take most the carb linkage off just to adjust the needle.

It's not that bad. ;) Just leave the plastic off while tuning.

The needle is generally a go or no-go setting. 1 notch makes all the difference.

I'd drop the clip / raise the needle 1 position.

To me, the needle is the easiest to tune.

eh, maybe for stock. but it says in his sig that he has the race cuts. i have them too and i HATE taking off the plastics because you have to take off your bars to get them off. the plastics don't split like the stock ones.

but yeah, whenever i adjust my carb i just leave the front plastics off, put the tank on, take it for a little spin and see how it does.

well i dont have to take the bars off anymore. split the plastic where it goes over the tank, drilled holes on each side of the split and put cable ties through the holes. works great.

what did you find? i think you may need to lean out the needle position, especially with that main. thats only .060" over right?
