too early to practice? We shoot year round. My dad and brother are heading to the 3d worlds competition in indiana next week. I cant make it because of work. My dad usually finishes in the top 30 in mens open release. My brother would have won last year had he shot in the correct class!

Im selling my mathews switchback and getting a new drenalin. Between the three of us, we have 7 mathews bows hanging up in the garage, and the switchback Im selling is the oldest one.

I cant wait for deer season!

Hunting season is the life here, all we do is shoot and I am especially excited or bow season. WE go to a bow fest and I have won the sharp shooters contest 3 years in a row.

I am running the mathews switchback

Here is a pic, why dont we all post pics of our setups.

Do you shoot with your quiver on?

At the vegas style shoots we go to, anything less than a perfect score and you're already out of the running. The winner is deteremined by how many X's they get within the bullseye. Once someone shoots anything less than a bullseye, like an 8, they usually pack up and go home as their day is over.

Yes I do because I hunt with it so I want to be use to it but I will probably take it off for the bow fest. By the way does anyone go to the Potter County bowhunters festival?

You know they make quiver holders that screw into tree limbs? That way you can unclip your quiver, and clip it into the tree next to you... less weight so you can hold the bow up longer and also cuts down on vibrational noises tremendously, so if you do miss, you have a better chance of getting a second shot off.

Ya I see what you mean, but here you really only get one shot anyways because the deer are so spooky.

If your bow is quiet enough it wont matter... I've seen my dad shoot twice at a dear that was still in range... he misjudged the distance the first time, but the second time ... lights out. Just for the simple fact of getting weight off the bow so you can hold it just a few second longer might mean meat on the table or nothing...

ya, we have the things that screw into the trees but the bow quiver does not come off that easy.

I shoot an old Matthews MQ1. It is older and slow(by today's standards) but still accounts for deer in the freezer. If I bowhunted more I'd upgrade but I hunt the marshes of the Eastern shore of Maryland and the mosquitoes are horrible till November. By then the ducks are flying pretty good and it is rare for me to get in a deer stand till gun and muzzleloader season come in.

i have been shooting archery for over 25 years. my bow still has the broad heads on it form last year. i dont think it will take them out of the quiver. I will just take a 100 practice shots the week before deer season.

my no means am i telling people not to practice. you should shoot over a 100000 arrows before trying to kill a deer with a bow. and i have never took a shoot at a deer over 35 yards most are under 20.

I use to got to 3D shoots before 3D targets existed. most of the time 2 or 3 a weekend. I just have to may other thing gong on now.

O I have one of the original Hoyt split limbs. I hate to get rid of it, its out shoots the switchback i sold!!

I've been ready since the 2nd archery season closed here in pa. I try to shoot at least one night a week if not more....but working a 12 hour swing night shift its not always possible. I shooting a hoyt trykon with hoyt 3 pin site and stabilizer and easton full metal jacket arrows.... at 30 yds. i can put a 3 arrow group the size of a half doallar...so now its just to get the deer close enough...lol

im down to about a 6 inch group at 60 yards now. i like to practice at long distances because it just makes those 30-40 yard shots feel like chip shots

07-26-2007, 08:21 PM
i don't have anywherer in my yard to practice at that far, 40 yds in the farthest in can go in my yard....but thats the fathest i would shoot at noything in the woods so its good enough for me.

It is very important to practice extremely close shots like this too! Most people dont even know to aim way high.

What ones have you used?

Well I tried the S-Coil that i have on my other bow, and then I went to the local pro shop and they let me try a bunch that i didnt like, dont know the names of them however. Also what kind of broadheads are you guys shooting? I think that I am going to try the Montec G5 this year. Last year I used the Rage 2-blades and had mixed results.
