View Full Version : A good crank rebuilder?

My engine seems to be making a knocking noise louder than normal. Noticed upon teardown that my stock crank has about .024 side clearance, the up and down play is a little harder to gauge though. I can grab the small end of the rod and move it side to side about an 1/8", I assume that this confirms there is too much clearance up and down? I'd like to stick with a short rod crank, so my only option seems to be a rebuild. I've read several Hot Rod's posts and come to the conclusion that I'm definitely NOT going that route. Following the advice of 86 Quad R's many posts, seems like a Pro-X rod is the ticket. I'm considering Crankworks, seems to be a reputable shop and the closest to Oregon. Any thoughts or recommendations?

looks to be a good builder to me. i'd go with them unless you have somebody local to you that is capable of doing the build.

Crankworks is local to me. Their reputation is second to none AFAIK.
