Attention 250x and 300ex owners!!!!!!!!! [Archive]

Hello all,

Recently I have been talking Feather Carbon for the past week or two about making hoods for 250x's and 300ex's.... These hoods will be like the 250R carbon fiber hoods with the scoops.

As of right now I am just posting this to see how many would be interested and this is not a definate thing yet. But I was told if we had enough interest we could get these hoods made.

Also, we talked about having them make the small piece that goes around the gastank cap as well as the large piece that goes around the tank and the steering stem.

If we get enough interest on all of these parts, we can make this happen!

So if I can get enough people together and present this to them to show there is enough interest in these parts, they can make them!

Prices were discussed on the hoods but nothing else. If we can get enough people interested on the hoods, they will be about the same price as the 250R hoods(if we can get 5+ people). As far as the other pieces, I will find out once there is enough interest. Also, I will be sending them my stock parts to build the molds after and they will probably have a better idea on price once they see the parts in person.

So please list if you are interested and hopefully we can make this happen! Please specify what you are interested in and if you are 100% in or if you want to wait and see a definate price. Like I said the hoods will be around the 250R prices which are about $125...

have to come up with the money, but if it will fit my silver maier i would deffinetaly buy it, i love carbon fiber and i wish they made some for the 300ex. :D

Not sure how you would secure it to the Maier, but if the contour is the same as stock it should fit. Right now we are talking stock Plastics and stock mounting.

just have em make a hood the same as a 400ex or 20r hood, only short enough to fit the hood of a 300ex, don't do stock width, that will be dumb

Why would that be dumb? What about all the people out there with stock plastics that may want these?

how about you make one that will fit maier and stock, don't make the full stock hood size......if you are makin it for stock you lost a buyer

Sorry, but that was the whole meaning behind this post, a hood that will fit a stock 300ex/250x. I can check with them about making different sizes, but then they will probably need a different mold and that where it gets expensive.

I will talk to them about it, but again we would need a minimum amount of people interested in that style hood. I will let you know.

Live - I think he we can get this going, they will have the mold made(once we hit enough people) and then they will probably make them on a normal basis or on special order..... I will make sure i check with them about that(future orders)....

it wouldnt be hard to put it on maier plastic, just drill holes in it and zip tie it. you dont have to cut the whole hood out like stock.

I would definitly buy one right away if i had the money right in my hands. yes they should make the hoods for the 300ex and 250x and they should also make that plastic cover that goes on top of the gas tank in a carbin fiber to i think that would look good carbon hood and top gas tank cover

Honda Extreme - The pieces would be seperate just like the stock pieces. You would buy them one at a time....

Honda250xrider and KP - They would be the same color as the one in the picture and also they have a few different colors of weave that they could make them with that would set it off a little. Not sure how they would work it with different colors but I will check...

Yesterday I e-mailed them about my progress on the responses I was getting and that was only when about 4 people responded and their reply sounded good! So now that more people have responded in favor of this I think we may be able to get this rolling!!!!! So tell all your friends with 250x's and 300ex's so we can get a good crowd for these! :)

i would be highly interested if they make them i would want black but other colors would be nice for people with diferent color frames and platics and stuff like that

I think we will be sending the funds straight to Feather if this goes thorugh. Actually Thomas and I have never mentioned how the payments woudl go through. I sent him an e-mail and let him know how my progress was going and haven't heard back yet.

All the pieces will be seperate. At this time they are only concentrating on the hood. After that is complete we'll see about doing the rest!

Sounds like a good deal you have going on... I may be interested in some pieces... But i do have one question for ya tho, Will there be diffrent colors to choose from... I have seen blue and red in Carbon fiber... The raw Carbon fiber look is cool but, people might want a diffrent color to match there quads... I'm just only throwing out some ideas.... But all i can say dude is go for it!!!...:D

Sorry, I have been a little busy here and my X is apart. They need a pic of the front with the hood off so they can see how it mounts. I posted to see if anyone could take some but haven't heard anything yet. If I dont hear somethign soon, I will have to put my plastics back on and take a few.

Ok, Thomas has been working on this project even thoguh I haven't gotten him pics yet. He doesn't need them now since he has a friend with a 300ex..
But he had a new idea and I wanted ot see how it would fly. He said he is mocking up an idea of having a scoop hood that bolts over the factory hood with the smae style expansion bolts as used on the 400ex...

Here is his exact wording:

"I think what I am goign to do is make it fit over the original hood and down the sides some. That way riders would not have to take their ride apart to put them on. They will be held in place
with the Honda plastic expansion bolts like on the 400ex. "

What do you all think? He hasn't sent any pics yet(I requested some), but if he does I will post them.

im interested in one . Why are there always people who have to complain about everything its people like that, that make people never want to do anything. Just like those stupid people who complain about tracks people put hard work into them and it is discouraging when you try to make something for the people and they just through ti back in your face, that is why we dont have any where to ride. GOt an e-mail from THomas a little earlier and he is going to make it a complete hood now instead of the bolt on piece. The thing he was concerned with was the mounting brackets. But he is making the complete hood now.

great of course now the price is higher no doubt. but as long as it looks good i'm in it's about time 300's started to get a little styling piecs. lord knows 400's and r's have every thing under the sun. it's just a shame you have to go through all this to get em done. trust me it's greatly apreciated here

Ok, here is the reply I have received this morning from Feather Carbon:

"I will have a good pic of whats to come soon. The size of the hood made it a job getting the scoop to be a size that looked like it should be there. I think you will like it."

So hopefully we will have somehting soon.

And as for price, I was told in the beginning that they will be the same price as the 250R hoods which are around $125-150....

Hiper- I believe they can make it a few tint colors like red, yellow and blue. Not sure but I will check when it is all ready to be ordered. Price will be aroudn $125-150 whateer the 250R price is.

We haven't discussed that... I am not sure how they do their R and 400 scoop hoods... I will check into it. :)

I imagine it wouldn't be hard for them to produce one without a hole depending on how they mold it.

After they get the hood done, I will start on them about the tank cover and the large pieces around he tank and under the bars.

I guess the hood in the pics are what they use to make the molds. This morning I e-mailed Fetaher with a few questions and also asked when they would be ready. When I know I will pass it on. :)

Just heard back from Feather. Here are some answers to a few questions:

Yes, they will be available in colors.

The price is still up in the air, but will be no more than an R hood(may be a little less)....

And a complete hood may be done at the beginning of next week!! SWEET!!!!!!

Should be right around $125. They told me it would be a little less than the R's so it will probably be a little less than that...

I believe they will be cutting the hole open in the scoop before sending them out. I htink that one was hot off the mold... :)

I got that picture this morning and replied asking when the first run would be available. I should here something back in the morning....... After these are done I will push for the other two pieces. In the beginning I asked for all three and they went with the hood first...

My X is still in 1000 pieces... BUt I know Feather has a friend with a 300 so I am sure he will have it bolted up to his for a pic.. If not I will request one... If we can get a huge first order, they may drop the price some. I will check... :)

Right above your hood is the plastic piece that goes under your bars/stem and wraps around and connects over the tank. After we get the hood done, I am goign to see if they will make that piece and a gas cap surround piece.

Well I got word from Feathers last night that for those with Maier plastics that wnat one to zip-tie onto there front plastics that was mentioned earlier in the post, they can get them now!!!! The brackets for mounting haven't been added yet to the one in the pic so they would be able to be added on to Maier fenders.
No price on these yet, but if you want one to zip tie on, PM or e-mail me!!! :)

Hello all!!! Sorry for another delay on my responses. I got sick last Friday and have been pretty much bed ridden until now. I have a couple more pics from Feather, but I dont have my resizing software here at my g/f's house so I will try and get to work to get my laptop today/tonight and will post them asap!!! The new pics are of the carbon hood mounted on a stock 300ex...

Also, I got a price on the hoods for those with Maier fenders who want to zip tie them on.... They are $65 and I would imagine + s/h... As soon as I hear back from Feather I will let those who want the ziptie model know how to order......

I would buy one if they made it with the red weave, and NO scoop! Hate to say , but I really dislike the scoop. A smooth hood, or having the scoop a little smaller and further up on the hood would look better, in my opinion. Anyway, now that he has a prototype, ask if he can make some variations of the hood.....and get to work on the tank cover and surround too. I would buy a whole top set. They would be better than the buying stock and not cost too much more than gettin FullBore or Maier. not to mention LOOK WAY BETTER!!!:D keep us posted, Thanks

brad and my quad should look awsome with the yellow fenders. i want the scoop cut out and i don't want their website at the bottom. tell them to give people stickers because i do not want the website at the bottom of the thing

sorry i know we've all waited for this day, but i don't think i like it very much.

looks like a pig nose.....

if it came further up the nose,..or somethin'..i don't know whats wrong with it......on the 400 and r's it looks like it was ment to be.
on the 300, it looks like ...i cut my old headlight plastic up and stuck it on there......it's in the right spot for cooling,
instead of "scooping", and then tapering off real quick i thnk it should keep the same leval, and/or slightly taper off as it goes up the nose....even it that means, overlaping the tank plastic.

another thing that might help....send them the tank plastic, and nose piece tell them to make it as one peice, then put the gas cap piece on...

make 2 choises...either buy just the hood like you have, or buy the complete "wrap around" hood.......

yea i have to agree..it definitly looks sweet but i think it should be the whole hood,not just a little part of it..it would look really sweet if they made the whole hood like covering the red gas tank part and just the small one for people that like that..i definitly think its trick but it would look even sicker if it was the whole peice..juist my .02.i also have to agree with krazykid...it is gonna look realluy sweet on yellow 300's and cut fenders too

idc its going to look tight on mine anyway. but it could use some fixing. idc they tryed but they can improve. all of you guys are putting them down. we can have no hood if you want like usual. give alittle respect here. they are trying and they can improve it like anything else. i give 2 thumbs up. they tried to do something for us. sure i think the top of the scoop should go up farther but hey i like it. that will direct air right to the head. some air scoops too. carbon fiber tank thing and tank cover will be nice also. i might get an oversized tank so if they do i won't. nice work feather!

I just got an e-mail from Thomas at Feather an he is really sick at the moment so this will push back the finish date a little. Dont worry though, things will be ok! We waited this long and the scoops are sweet so a little longer wont hurt.

I was the one that got this going and am dealing with Feather directly. Thomas is supposed to call me when he gets well to discuss ordering(for everyone on this site) and when they will be available. They are not ready yet and I am keeping everyone informed on the ordering and availablility status. :rolleyes:

man im kickin myself in the @$$ 4 selling it, i had to sell it 4 money so i could start building my car. at that time my dad was also goin through a devorce so i had to wait a while before i got a new one. this one will be even better cuz im puttin the new crf250r motor in there, so itll be a pretty neat project.
