The weight of the rider, the surface you are riding on, and even the altitude are factors that will effect the top speed. I would guess anywhere between 64 and 69 mph bone stock.

so 67mph x 1.6 = km

107.2km/h that seems bit unrealistic but you know more than me.

Not really. A stock 400ex should run around 106 - 112 Km/h. It might take a stocker a little while to get there, but that's about what they run. ;)

Really?
Damn thanks.

Have a 416 on GPS it did just under 65 and my buddy with a stock 400 besides a K&N air filter ran just under 62. Need to do some tuning on the 416 if i only picked up 3 mph over stock, hope that helps.

adding performance mods to the engine is not going to make it faster. Only gearing and rpm limits will change top speed. so with the 416 you may want to add 1 tooth to the counter sprocket.

335mph in 1/4 mile

those last few posts were funny i thought. I was going around 60mph when the county cop pulled me over:devil:
but with stock tires, gearing and everything im almost 100% posotive that if your engines in the right condition that its excactly 68.7mph

how is it possible for more hp not to increase the top speed? that makes no sense at all.

xc racer, what hes saying is right.
Although you may have more horsepower/acceleration/power it isnt going to change your top speed at all unless you get bigger tires or sprockets or get a rev box. Having more Horsepower is going to get you to your top speed faster but not make more top speed.

my bro had a 416 and he smoked me and i have a stock 400

choco

Was this a race at top speed? or a drag?

Because if it was a drag than he should beat you because he cant get to the same top speed as you faster.

400exrapes
07-27-2007, 07:57 PM
yeah because ifhes got a 416 then hes going to acclerate way faster and if hes got the same sime tires and sprockets then you'll have the same top speed btu since he acclerated faster then you you'll be behind him
for example i have 18 inch tires and i was pulled over by a county cop and he asked me if i knew i was going a little bit under 65mph but if i had stock tires,20 inch, then i would be at about 69 and if i had 22 inch tires maybe alittle bit higher but then i would get there slower

ok, ive got a dead stock 400, with the exception of removed airbox lid and soon to be custom muffler end cap, and i should be pullin about 68 or so??

450rJam

your rev limiter is what holds the top mph down not the hp

its like a 10 foot chain on your dog lol
put it on a poodle and the poodle can only go 10 feet
put it on a pit bull and the pit bull can only go 10 feet

one may be stronger or faster but darn it the limit is the limit

well assuming you tune it/jet it correctly yes and if your custom muffler produces a better airflow you will probable get there faster as well because your lids off. With stock tires of course too right? And if its tuned correctly

so you think i will have to rejet tho? and right now i have the cap off, and it smokes some, but when i put it back on, its clean as normal air.. is that because of the lack of the spark arrestor?

400exrapes
07-27-2007, 09:44 PM
it shouldnt smoke, andyes dont take your lid off if you dont wanna rejet because you'll suck in alot more air and it will be lean, also it will make your engine run real hot if its not jetted and could seiz it up,
but you shouldnt be smoking what color is the smoke?

choco
07-27-2007, 11:58 PM
The spark arrestor doesnt slow the exhaust down any does it?
Like where you lose some power?

400exBRAAP
07-28-2007, 05:13 AM
oh its a blu-ish, grey-ish, white-ish smoke. and it vanishes when the spark arrestor is on.

450rJam
07-28-2007, 05:59 AM
sparky does restrict it some,
you want it faster ? is that why your freeing up your exhaust and pulling off the lid? that will make it faster by alowing more air to flow through your motor but if you increase the air you have to increase the gas also (re-jet)
if you improve the flow on only one (air or gas) it will hurt it not help it. dont do one unless your going to do both.

400exrapes
07-28-2007, 09:09 AM
If you take off your lid you will get a little bit more power because of the extra air your sucking in. But taking out the baffle im not sure how much air thats going to change. But When your jetting do it until your plug is brown remember that and the white smoke shouldnt be happening that means its burning oil and the only reason you cant see it when the baffle is in is probably cause the baffle is filtering the white/grey smoke and blocking it from coming out.

black smoke = fuel (rich)
blue smoke = oil (rings/valves....)
white smoke = water/antifreeze (not on a 400ex)

If you cut off your front fenders it will make you more aerodynamicaly correct, which will make you faster, and it will also help you do better wheelies.

400exrapes
07-28-2007, 10:09 AM
yeah black smoke =rich jetting
white smoke=worn rings or valves
blue smoke=oil burning as well

450rJam
07-28-2007, 10:31 AM
what is getting into the combustion chamber when the rings get worn ?

I have seen oil burn light blue maybe gray

not going to argue about the color of burning oil lol
if you call it white thats ok

ever seen a water cooled engine blow a head gasket ?
now thats white smoke

okay so If I get a f/s hmf exhaust, I will have to re-jet?

My little bro got a f/s big gun exhaust for his 100xr, does he ahve to re-jet also?

yes you do, what does f/s mean to you? but no matter what you get if its a better flowing exhaust/system then you must rejet
