okay heres he deal this time. My R just wont idle..It runs good when on the gas, but moment I let off it shuts off.
I even have to give it gas to start her up.

My mods are stock carb, pro boyseen reeds, lrd pipe an silencer, ported for mx..

Any ideas to why wont idle...

I have tried adjusting idle screw and it makes no difference.

I have also changed my throttle cable because it will idle is cable is adjusted all the way loose, when unconnected but that it.

I'm dying to hit the track this summer, but always a problem...grr:grr:

Thanks,

David

umm not sure have to check it...i think its close to stock ...but i will check it again..

the idle adjust on the choke makes no difference if i turn it either way..

is there any gas leaking from the over flow. your float might be off.

make sure the float needle still has a clip and it is at the proper height.

pull the carb and do a good cleaning using compressed air to blow the circuits out. pay good attention to the idle/choke assembly, making sure its ok. check to make sure that the float needle and seat are in good shape and the float is adjusted to spec. start out with a 45 pilot and the adjustment screw is 1.5 turns out. while the carb is off is a good time to insure the reeds are ok.

the stock carbs can/will be a pain to setup due to the fact that the idle and choke share the same circuit. so be patient.

if you require further assistance in tuning the carb out
HERE (http://www.duncanracing.com/techfaq/Tech_keihin-carburetion-jetting.phtml) is some great reading

good luck with it

can i run a 155 main jet instead of the 158???

I just snapped the 158 jet...but local dealer has a 155??

You may be able to run the 155 but if your jetting was good with the 158 then the 155 will probably be to lean. I would be afraid to even try it. You may not think that its far enough away to make a difference but I was running a 160 and my bike ran like crap and I moved down to a 158 and it ran perfect. My point is that small changes make a big difference.

well since i snapped the 158...i ran to dealer an got 155 and it seems to pull a bit harder.. ;-}

but she still doesn't idle...

I think time for carb rebuild..

First and foremost, clean the carb.

If it still won't idle, try putting a brand-spankin new spark plug in it, and see if it idles then. If it DOES, but dies after a minute or so, then pull the plug and see what color it is.

yea the same thing happened to me last month....it ran great but wouldnt idle...so i just changed the spark plug out and played with the idle for a little bit and once i got it right it ran and idled great.

put new plug in an no change...

I think my problem is the float or weared down thumb throttle
