Well, ive finished up the first step of my race rhino build today. I installed the new long travel setup. All i have to say is WOW, im totally speechless. Words cant explain how it handles now.

Im still a good ways off from the finished product. I still have to built the complete cage/chassis, cut out the seat frames, widen the chassis, relocate the steering, install the fuel cell, install all the safety items, and all the goodies:devil:

But here are some pics of it this morning. With the stock one beside it, it gives you a good perspective.

Thank you
Justin

What did you go with for shocks? and components? Brands? weller has some videos of there sv1000 powered rhino on their site I'm betting that thing is going to be sick. What are the restrictions for racing rhino's anyway?

Hey, i went with the XMF setup and Walker evans shocks. The setup is the nicest quality product ive ever seen, and the customer support blows the rest of the companies out of the water!!!

I will be running the WPSA pro super sport(side by side) class with it. There are ALOT of rules and regulations to being able to race one. But safety should not be skimped on.

Thank you
Justin

Hey, thanks for the comments guys!

esr250r86, unfortunetly i will not be making it to that race. I still have to go through a mad rush to get all the rest of the work finished. The rule book for the pro super sport class is VERY strict, the modificationsneeded are to the extreme and VERY costly, but i cant wait till shes done!

thank you
Justin

thats ****ing sick dude. question, is this the same 660 carborated motor thats in the old grizz?

jrspawn

Yeah the drivetrain is just about the same as the 660 grizzly. For the lower amount of HP they put out stock, its pretty crazy how the feel. You would never think an engine with that amount of HP is that fast

Thank you
Justin

Correct, safety should NOT be skimped on.

Hey, its not so much that they are front heavy. Its just that Alot of suspension setups are not dialed in correct. There are a handfull of setups that fly nice and even in the air.

Twisted, ill be at englishtown, but again im not sure if i will be to spec yet to race, it will be VERY close though.

Thank you
Justin

They are shaping up to be nice machines but I have to disagree with the good suspension and jumping comment. Not one of those machines that have been set up for racing flies straight. Every single one of them goes in with the nose down. The one in the video was a $50k machine according to the owner/operator and it didn't even fly straight until he put weight in the rear and he was able to hold the throttle steady. Those things are nose heavy. Every single one at the WPSA that attempted to jump, performed a nose dive and they all were set up for racing with the exception of one or two. I think it's a neat idea, but those things were made to be raced. I was a little disappointed when I watched them at the WPSA. They needed a Hyabusa engine in them to make it more entertaining. There needs to be a little more R&D to get them to fly straight and be ready to catch some good air. Instead of having to convert a piece of farm equipment to race, they should just come back out with the Honda Pilot or something similar.

Well, i hate to come across the wrong way, but your totally wrong on some of those things.

Its great you have an opinion on whats what, but without owning one, its just an thought(again, i dont mean to come off the wrong way).

There are quite a few that fly correct in the air. And again, it is NOT becuase of just being nose heavy. The issue on hand is the suspension setup. Not like being on a quad where you can use your body weight and english and throttle/brake control, with the rhino you HAVE to have to suspension set perfect. What happens on must rhinos is the rear suspension preloads way to much on take off, causing the rear end to buck. No different than a quad, try having your shock settings not set correct, then on take off seat bounce(totally preload the rear end) it and not use any throttle/brake or body control, and see what it does.

Ive also never heard of anyone adding weights in the rear to fly right either? Again, that would have a reverse effect. Strap 100lbs on the rear of your quad and see how it acts on take off, your rear end will load up alot more.

Remember, there is still alot of R&D going on for these machines as the racing scene is still growing.

Also another thing to consider with this is the sizze of jump. Many jumps built for quads/bikes will have a relatively short takeoff. With the wheel base of a race rhino being up 10 11feet or more long, thats not much area for takeoff.

Many companies like XMF have done their homework and has a kit and shock setup that their drivers are flying as level as can be. And just becuase someone dumps 50 thousand into a race machine, doesnt mean its gonna be perfect.

And if you want to get technical, race rhinos are normally scailed out to be about 50% front/rear weight, if not give a little towards the rear, Not front heavy.

Also, you dont need a hayabusa engine to make them entertaining. I see your from VA, if you ever make it up this way id be more than happy to take you out with my race setup on the track, you Will be surprised.

And again, i appologize if anyone takes that the wrong way.

Thank you
Justin

heres a short clip of a jump i had on here, i have a ton more but ill have to dig them up for you.
