Friends dad has a 98 sport package with the 4.3 and it seems to get around nicely.

Is it a single cab or extended cab? v6 or v8? Depending on all of that is on if the price is good or not but you can find them much cheaper than that, which that isnt bad mileage on that truck. I had one and had a few problems with it but it was a 97 (first year for that body style) A solenoid on the transmission went bad and was $300 to fix and I believe the truck is still going strong. Mine was a single cab with the 5.2v8. I sold it with 90K miles on it for $3500

Which engine does it have? Is it a 4x4? The v6 is a good engine but it doesn't get any better gas mileage than the 5.2 v8 and is a bit underpowered. I have a 98 dakota sport 4x4 ext cab with the 5.2 v8 that has 145,000 miles and still runs strong. Dakotas are known to have front ball joint problems but it's fairly cheap to fix. Some claim they have weak automatic trannys but mine is still going strong and honestly shifts better than any chevy I have ever owned. $7500 sounds a bit high though. I only paid $4700 for mine about a year ago. I wouldn't pay more than $5500-$6000 for it if it is in near perfect shape. Dakotas are a great choice in the midsize truck category and they tow and haul very well. The 4x4 system works very well on and offroad too.

The 5.2 is a great engine. It has tons of low end torque for a small v8. Since it is a crew cab(4 door right?) it's probably worth a bit more than the club cab but I still wouldn't go much over $6500 or so for the truck.

ive got a friend with a 5.2 dakota 2wd. its a quick truck. its pretty dependable too from what ive seen, it has a brand new rear end it though.

7500 sounds a little high for an 8 year old dakota with 110,000 miles on it. JMO

the only way you would have problems is if they let it sit, my dad had a 94 dodge dakota he bought off the showrrom floor, he kept the thing mint, never showed his age, in 05 he treated himself to a brand new tundra. WHile we were trying to seel it it died because of sitting, a couple wires rotted out uinder the hood, after being fixed it ran mint, my dads truck looked brand new when he sold it 11 years after buying it:D

awsome truck, i loved it, wish i was a little older so i woulda been able to drive it and have it as my first truck...o well, getting a Tacoma next year:devil:

Four door dakotas werent made till 00. The 99 will be a club cab or standard cab. A 99 dakota 4x4 clubcab v8 with that many miles would only be worth around 5000 maybe 6000 here.

They only make big lift kits for 97 to 99 dakotas. the 00 and up dakotas have a lil bit diff suspension/steering setup and your limited to body lifts or home made lift kits with 00 and up. I think maybe it was 03 to 04 or 05 they make 3inch suspension lifts.

Kinda sucks the aftermarket for dakotas is limited so keep that in mind if you want to do anything to it. they make tons of parts for Rams.

like i said about my tranny, the only problem was the shifter solenoid, also I did blow a freeze plug out for some odd reason

The 5.2 V8(318 C.U.) engine has been around forever and is almost bulletproof. Most of the problems will be either tranny or the stuff around the engine. I'm at 145k miles and I expect it will last to 200k mi. or more.

The only other common problem with these engines are the intak plenum gaskets tend to go out but it's an easy fix and usuall only costs around $50 for parts plus labor(unless you fix it yourself)

If you really want a dakota, shop around man. $7500 is too much for that truck. My nephew just bought a 2000 quad cab for 6500.

My dad has the 5.2L in his 94 full size Ram , and he now has over 205 000 miles on it . Never had a problem with the motor or transmission . Do proper maintenance and your motor will last forever. He started putting a can of RESTORE in the engine with every oil change since 100 000 miles and things run perfectly.

I have 118 000 miles on my 95 full size ext. cab Ram (5.2L)and no problems thus far . I put Restore in it every oil change also. :)
