what a coincidence Ive wanted a boxer for a while but i have a 3 1/2 yr old and don't know how they would react to a child climbing all over them my coonhound wouldnt bite anyone even if you were attacking her shes so mellow you know she just lys around all day sleeping, but i hear boxers are good dogs though.

great dogs man. My godchild (11 months old) crawls on him and it doesnt bother him one bit. If you get one, make sure you have a nice size yard so they can run. Thats all mine does when I let him outside at my parents house. He is in very good shape, extremely ripped for a dog. In those pics hes a little over 2 and he took to my other dog well.

one of my buddy's has 2 boxers ones a pup and ones like 3or4 but they are some sort of special breed cause he traveled like 300miles to get his first one and he paid $800 or $1000 something like that, does that sound about right?Actualy i think that they were called a brindle or something.Anyways i was at his house one time and those darn boxers were jumping straight up as high as his fence on all four legs its like they were tigers or something lol..yeah if i did get one i live on 7achers so they could run,my Bluetick has a collar that will shock her if she goes outside of a 100ft circle but she can run freely with out me watching her,so i can have peace of mind about her going in the road.

Brindle is the stripped color pattern. That what I wanted but have to fawn (brown). There are great athletic dogs. I paid half that w/ papers but that is the average price.

if it is reverse brindle then you can pull that kind of money. I know there is a Champion Bloodline Boxer, which is what im getting next. I got quoted for $1300 a pup for those. The brindle is a pretty common color, a bunch of my friends boxers are that color. I got mine for $400 AKC registered

I can't keep him out of the water. As soon as the ice leaves the lake in the spring time he's in it. His swimming has really improved from last year because I take him out running every day . He loves the water so much , that 2 weeks ago we had a major rain storm and it filled our ditch with water ( about 4 feet deep) , I let him out and look outside and there he was swimming in the damn ditch. :p

And yeah , he loves the quad too. If my girlfriend doesn't come out riding, he sits on the seat. If we go out all 3 of us , he stradles the tank ( rear paws on the floorboards , front paws over the tank) . I need to get someone to take a picture of that . The looks we get , especially when the quad is strapped down with ice fishing gear and the 3 of us are on it, is priceless. :blah:

Boy, I hope my Boxador breaks the mold............hope he does not chew the darn house down!

You have to enforce it for them not to chew. It took about a year for Hunter to break out of the habit. I mean , he destroyed a LOT of stuff. We lost 2 comforters , plus my mom's at her place ( as seen in the photo), pillows , pillow cases with the corners chewed out , countless pairs of socks and underwear ( make sure to put them in a hamper) , sunglasses , and MANY pairs of shoes. I had a brand new pair of $180 dress shoes that I had just bought and NEVER worn ( were going to be worn a few weeks after I bought them for a friends wedding) ... came home 1 night and found nothing but the sole left. It was then that we decided that Hunter was going to be put in a cage while we were gone . The cage is now long gone and he can stay alone at home for hours and not destroy anything . I love it now !!! :D

But one thing I'll tell you , expect things to be chewed up. Dogs get bored , their teeth develop and they need something to chew on. My suggestion, keep all your empty plastic water bottles and let the dog go nuts. An empty water bottle is by far the cheapest and best toy that your dog will ever have .

Damn he's grown . That's the one you had pictures of as a little pup , right?

If he's purebred , he probably won't get much bigger . Hunter topped out at a little less than 70 lbs and stands a bit taller than knee height on me.

And those damn orange collars don't stay nice and bright for too long either . We're on our 3rd one now .... they fade quickly when the dog is in the water and in the sun all day. :grr:

I am interested in why you say he won't get bigger if he is purebreed? Our yellow lab is only 9 mos and 70 lbs already. He is purebreed. I have his, his parents & his grandparents papers. My understanding is that there are two types of labs. American/Show and English/Field. The American/Show are shorter and rounder and the English/Field are taller and leaner?

The AKC (American Kennel Club) and CKC (Canadian Kennel Club) has an " Official Standard" for purebred Labrador Retrievers , if you ever wanted to show your dog in competitions.

Size - The height at the withers for a dog is 22-1/2 to 24-1/2 inches; for a ***** is 21-1/2 to 23-1/2 inches. Any variance greater than 1/2 inch above or below these heights is a disqualification. Approximate weight of dogs and *****es in working condition: dogs 65 to 80 pounds; *****es 55 to 70 pounds. The minimum height ranges set forth in the paragraph above shall not apply to dogs or *****es under twelve months of age.

Proportion - Short-coupled; length from the point of the shoulder to the point of the rump is equal to or slightly longer than the distance from the withers to the ground. Distance from the elbow to the ground should be equal to one half of the height at the withers. The brisket should extend to the elbows, but not perceptibly deeper. The body must be of sufficient length to permit a straight, free and efficient stride; but the dog should never appear low and long or tall and leggy in outline.

Substance - Substance and bone proportionate to the overall dog. Light,"weedy" individuals are definitely incorrect; equally objectionable are cloddy lumbering specimens. Labrador Retrievers shall be shown in working condition well-muscled and without excess fat.

Here's a link if you want to read the rest of the stuff. It's the Labrador Club .. part of the AKC.

But basically it's saying what the "norm" is for a Labrador Retriever and what a dog "should" be in order to show it.

Hunter stopped growing at around 9 or 10 months old and he weighed 75 lbs. I run him every day and he lost all his fat and gained muscle instead. He now tips the scales around 67 - 69 lbs.

If you want to know if your dog is too skinny or too fat , stand over top of him ... you should be able to see the buldge of his rib cage ( not be able to see the actual contour of the bones) and then it narrows down to his stomach . If you see all his bones , he's too skinny ... if there's no contour between his ribs and his stomach , he's too fat.

Hope that helps a bit with understanding what I meant . If not , just ask away and I'll try and explain myself better.

:p
