I thought I'd just update a few things here. I've been out of commission for several months while getting my new build together. It's running now and so far, I am happy with the results.

Mods are:

06 TRX450ER - 511 cc's
Ice Cube 488 kit (100mm bore)
+3 HotRods Stroker (65.1mm stroke)
14:1 CP piston
Venom Porting
HotCams Stage 3
HRC Headpipe and WB E2 silencer (for now)

I won't have any dyno runs for a couple months. Expect it to be close to 60 hp and 38 ft-lbs torque..... so easy, a cave man could do it.....

thats what i was thinking... i've heard from several people that these high compression big bores with the electric start dont hold up too well...

then again... i remember seeing a dude at the dunes last year at the bottom of the hill that had a bunch of work done to his 450r... and he was sitting there kicking it for like a half hour trying to get it to start... i offered to pull start him... he said it was a pain to start when it was cold, and once it got warmed up :huh sounds fun to me

For the most part, the auto-decompress device on the cam should limit the cranking load the starter sees, regardless of the running compression.

The red cylinder looks trick.

Not an issue at all. Starts right up. It all depends on the setting for your decompressor. A lot of ppl set it by a gap - like Honda recommends - but that gap is for the stock motor. With the high comp motors, it's better to set the cranking compression using a compression gauge and I've had good luck with about 75 psi. This motor cranked 65 when I first got it assembled, light oil on the bore and obviously rings that were not seated yet. It spun quickly, but didn't light up very fast. Now that the rings are pretty much seated, it fires right up.....

I took it out for a little ride yesterday and while I'm not going to babble on and on about how fast it is, it is the fastest quad I've personally ridden. It has enough beans to break the tires loose in 4th when rolling the throttle on.

Can't wait for it to cool off, so I can sling some sand.

Very nice, I bet it rips! I have been considering going with an Ice Cube cylinder and the Hotrods +3 stroker on my 05 (but it will be later down the road).

It's not too impressive to watch somebody rip down a street or in the desert (unless they are F-L-Y-I-N-G !!!). I can shoot a quick vid or at least some pics for now.

The good vids will have to wait until dune season starts ~ October/Nov...

Those Ice Cube cylinders sure are sexy! But they kinda give away the fact that it has some work done.:p Watching someone get walked on a stock looking sleeper always makes me smile.

Dan build good pipes - except they are too loud for my tastes. I'll sacrifice a little power for sound control...

i bet that 511 rips. how often do you adjust your valves? I'm asking because a friend of mines has a big bore kit in his 450 and he catches hell trying to get it started. I told him he need's to have his valves adjusted.

I have checked valve clearances 4 times since i bought it new about 16 months ago. Using the stock and then the HC2, there wasn't any changes needed. The HC3 was very close to the way it was shimmed with the HC2, and other than that, it hasn't needed a lot of adjustment. HotCams products are not all that hard on the valvetrain.

Hard starting is more likely an issue with jetting and/or decompressor settings. Valve wear can affect starting, but until the other two are checked, you can't be sure.

HEY HOW IT IT REV WITH THE STROKER CRANK?

and can you FEEL the difference with this setup compared to your last?

It revs like it did before. Very quick. The biggest difference is the way the motor feels on the top end. It is amazing how it just stays in the upper rpms so well, just pulling every gear almost as fast as you can shift.

It pulls as hard as the stock motor did with the HC2 on the bottom end and just rips when you hit the mid and especially top. I really like this build - so far....

So now that you have the engine built up, it's time to upgrade the suspension. Can't do too much with a motor if you can't keep it under control.

Also, have you ever been out to Speedworld MX park? If not, you should definitely check it out. There are open quad nights usually a couple of days a week. It's a blast ...
