ive got a quick question. I currently am running a Kenwood H/U with 6 6.5" Speakers. I want a little more push, but dont have the room for it. If i throw in a small 200w amp, will it make it sound better? I know how to do everything and I have a good understanding of wiring, but i dont know if a amp will help for what i want. I just want a little more out of my speakers.

Im not an expert on systems. I know how to install them and what sounds good and what doesnt.

I dont think it will be alot louder but it will have a more crisp sound. Possibly a little deeper punch to it also.... Wait till some of the big sterio guys find the thread and they will give you a better answer.

What kind of "push" do you want? More bass? If so, throw a 10" sub in there in a small sealed enclosure and it would sound really good and give you the little thump you want. Also if you put an amp (in your case the 200w) on your highs, it will sound a lot crisper and clean. Thats if your 6.5's can handle the power.

My system consist of an Alpine IVA-W200 touchscreen double din tv, Rockford fosgate Punch 700s (rated at 1400w), Kicker 5x7 door speakers, and an Audiobahn High Excursion 12" sub in a sealed enclosure. Im getting ready to order another sub and get a fiberglassed box for my trunk. Here are a few pics

i have no room for a sub :( I have a single cab dakota. ANd what do you mean, if my speakers can handle the power? They are all 220w speakers if thats wat your asking.

mineralgrey01gt

I had 2 10" subs in my single cab dakota with the amp that I have in the pics in the middle of the single truck boxes :) Then I had 4 10" subs in it, but the back wall was cut out (which I do not reccommend doing). Well if your speakers can handle that many watts, then a 200w amp would sound really good in your truck.

IMO that would have been better for my truck with that set up. It was kinda cramped with the 2 10's

okay so how do i know what size amp i should get? All 6 of my speakers are 200-220w speakers. Should i get a cheap 200w amp? What will that do to the sound? Also, you think i could get away with laying a 10" under my passenger seat? How tall are these? Never really did any crazy audio stuff.

alright. What am i looking at for a wiring job? Connecting all my speakers to that before they go to my H/U?

mineralgrey01gt
07-19-2007, 06:35 PM
your speakers will not connect to your head unit if thats what you mean. All you have to do is run the RCA jacks from the head unit to the amp, also your remote wire. Also if I was you, I would go ahead and run 2 sets of RCA jacks so that you will not have to later down the road if you want to run another amp for a subwoofer.

in the process of putting a system together for my new dakota club cab....how does this setup look?

-mtx thunderform box with 2 10s
-kicker kx350.2 2 channel amp
-pioneer 6.5" 3way speaker pair
-soundquest 4guage 1200watt amp install kit
-scosche deck install kit

all from 1 website

and then go down to bestbuy and pick out an ipod-ready deck and have them install it and ill do the rest myself.

opinions?

the head unit is extremely easy to install and takes a ton less time than the actual system takes to wire up. That system sounds good! You taking out the back seat? If there is a back seat in those, I really never looked at them.

1 12" Power Acoustik FUBAR sub in a ported box powered by a 1440 watt Kole Audio KX-1440 amp. It's plenty loud enough for me. I have heard much louder, though. Dual or 4 subs makes it sooo much louder, but I don't have the space.

If there is a back seat in those, I really never looked at them. yeah your right, i could probably save that $50 for installation, have a couple friends over, and do it all myself. the club cabs have a foldup back seat with a plastic storage container under it. the box/subs i am getting actually replace the storage container and fit in the factory spot so the seat is still useable...makes for a stealth look that i love! i cant wait to get this going, i roll out with my friends who have 15's in their trunk and im in the back with stock dakota components lol...time to get some thump baby!!

mineralgrey01gt you seem to know a little more than i do.

I think im going to throw in another Pioneer 10" to my set up, making 3 total. I know my 400W amp wont be enough, i was thinking of a 600watt. Do you think that will be good or do i need to look into an 800?

mineralgrey01gt
07-20-2007, 12:06 AM
how much power can the subs hold? The 600watt amp should be plenty enough if the others are working well off the 400watt amp.

alright. So how do I run 2 sets of RCA? My HU only has one set in the rear? Sorry for all the questions. I really dont know how to go about doing this.

mineralgrey01gt
07-20-2007, 08:50 AM
oh ok, well if it only has one set then thats not a problem. Do you plan on running another amp for some subwoofers later on? If so, the only thing I can see is you will have to switch out your head unit or get a cross-over. A cross-over allows you to run 2 or 3 different amps off of one central box and they all can be adjusted or fine tuned by the cross-over. Im only suggesting this if you plan on running an additional amp for a subwoofer later down the road. If not, then disregard what I have said about the subwoofer stuff. Here is a pic of a cross-over if you want to see what I am talking about:

Those kicker comps sound real good for the money. I had 4 10's hooked up to a cheap sound storm 1100 watt amp in my old civic a while back. It hit pretty good.
Ive got a question tho. I want to put 3 10's or 12's in a ex. cab s10 that i just got. How would this be wired up? On those 4 10's i had i wired them series-parallel so it kept the amp at 4 ohm if i remember right. Should i wire them the same on the 3 speakers or what??
