ok its time i break down and give my 400 some power. it also needs a rebuild so i figured i would get it done good. first i dont want to run race gas so should i use a 11:1 ? then my next question is i dont want to have to be working on it constantly so how about the 426 kit with stage 2 hotcams? will this give me good power ? should i do anything else to get more power like any port work or anything? my maine concern is i want it to be reliable will the 426 kit still be reliable?

how much should it cost to get a new sleeve put in? if i go ahead and get a new sleeve, cam chain, and hd studs should i just go with a 440 kit? how reliable are the 440 kits. would it be more reliable than a 426 just bored stock cylender, stock chain, and maybe some hd studs

you can bore out the stock sleeve to 426 and everything be fine. Can't go any bigger than that. The advantage to boring out stock sleeves is that you save a lot of money. I did all my own motor work, so saved a lot there, bought a piston and gasket kit for around 150 and had it professionally bored for $40. I felt like I was breaking the rules by getting everything so cheap.

This is from GT thunder.com here you go...TRX400EX Heavy Duty Head Studs

$59.95

These head studs are for repairing the 400EX cylinder after the thread in the cylinder are damaged or can be installed in a new cylinder to help prevent head gaskets failing as quickly. They have shown to have over 70% more holding strength then the stock head studs due to the increased diameter and the longer threaded area on the studs.

They can be installed with the cylinder on the quad but we prefer to machine the cylinder for the new studs on a mill for better accuracy.

400EX Heavy Duty Stud Kit - $59.95

Roll form tap $39.95

Stud Installation - $55.00
