Today i went to start my bike to go ride and it took FOREVER, usually its the first or second kick. It finally started running so i thought maybe i needed to adjust my valves, then i was letting it warm up and i noticed something dripping from the airbox, i take the seat off and the case breather is pouring oil into my filter!! I cant figure out why it would do that. Last time i rode it was fine... anyone had this happen before??

It happens to me sometimes. I think its from it over heating. Anyways I did the breather mod and Im gonna see if it stops

Great idea!

I am glad that you are deciding to rebuild it rather than ignore it!

It's just a seal, not a big deal to change. No need to split cases.

that sounds funny, cause normaly when it spews oil, you over fill the tranny side.

You can easily get a seal puller between the bearing and seal. Or you can turn a screw into the seal and pull it out.

yea i figured it out i think.. there was gas in my oil causing it to overflow, i guess the carb was clogged, i pulled the carb, cleaned it out and now its running fine.

alot of time if breather spews out oil then there is a kink in the line which in turn builds up enuf pressure to force it out.

There is no kink. Even when I tip it up on the grabbar it pours oil into the air box. It also does it when Im riding and its not overfilled.

ill check the manual and get back with you because that dont sound right. Ive never seen it pour out of breather unless a bike was running. Normally you may get some gas in your airbox if you flip it up on grab bar and dont have fuel off. are you positive that you have all the hoses hooked up right? but like i said, ill check it out and see what could be causing that.

Yep positive. My dealer told me it was normal when I asked them.

On my old 400ex i freaked out pretty much cause my thing would take forever to start, never stay idling and when we would leave to go riding i would stall on deceleration down the street and get pulled back by the big 400 utility.... oil in airbox and spurting out air filter.... I overfilled it so i drained some and it was perfect. Drain some oil to between low and high and i think it will run perfect.

If your tranny is low and your engine oil is high it can either be your large right side clutch cover gasket is torn allowing the two chambers to mix. (have you took the clutch cover off for anything recently and pinched the gasket maybe)

Or its your right hand side crank seal. If its the crank seal it usually leaves about 400-500ccs of oil in the tranny side after a few rides due to the level being below the crank seal.

To change this seal you first need to know if you have a stock non up dated crank or if you have the updated crank with collar.
The updated crank with collar uses a larger inner diameter seal.

This can be replaced in about an hour to and hour and a half.
You need to remove the large right side clutch cover, the whole clutch basket assembly and one of the gears behind it.

But before you change that seal, i would remove your oil filter and look for any shavings or pull the ign side cover and check the crank for play. Your bearings could be going causing the seal to be irregular at times.

If your oil wasnt transfering i would be saying she had a bit of blow by but that does not sound like the case
