Same Top Speed

I just raced my dads 2006 HRC 450R with my 440EX, we both have Trail Tech Endurance speedos programed perfectly to our wheel size so they are identical. We both ran a top speed of 73mph. Wind was not a factor and the quads both have stock gearing. I thought the 450's ran close to 80mph:confused:

What matters more to you, top speed or low end torque? If you want more speed go up one tooth on your front sprocket. Rear wheel size is a factor as well. I have a stock motor with a bunch of aftermarket bolt ons with stock 15/39 sprockets and 20" rear tires. I got mine up to 68.7 mph and I weigh 235 lbs.

Low end for sure. I just thought the 450 would be alot faster than that.

That is....strange. Your 400EX shouldn't be around the same top speed as the 450. Hell, my 05 450r can walk a wheelie away from topped out EX, and my 06 is (or was) faster on the topside by far. I dunno?

elevation, engine condition, drag, all sorts of other little fun factors play into top speed. wind resistance is always a factor. wind will hit the bikes at diffrent places causing diffrent wind drag points. you still gotta tunnel the air you are pushing. as mentioned, top speed can be the same but how fast it gets there may be a diffrent issue.

He noted he had a 440 kit on his 400ex.

You are right, but he did not say what his gearing was or his rear tire size.

Just for everyone to see, he said here that both were running stock gearing, and in an earlier post said that he was running 20x11x9 Holeshot (rears) on his 400EX. I assume that the tires on the 450r are stock? Is that right?

why r u questioning all this? u have a 440ex that runs with a 450r! u should be happy. rub it in all faces that you built your 440 right!

450R is the fastest 450 out right now. My friends dad has the Honda 450R, my friend has the YFZ450 and my friends borther has the LTZ450. The Suzuki is the slowest by far and the 450r can S*** on all 3. I thought the YFZ was fastest but no! We drag race often my 400 vs my friends YFZ450 and once he hits that last gear he is gone and I am topped out doing 72MPH with a stock motor. So 450's run around 80MPH

I just wanted to make sure I am reading this right, you are saying that a stock 400ex will keep up with a yfz450 until it hits 5th gear. Either you have the fastest stock 400ex ever built or your friend is not very good at drag racing.

lol well we think its stock, I bought it used and it only had about 10 hrs on it it was like new. The guy never said anything about having something done to the engine, I'm thinking Cam because I rag on my brothers 400ex and he has a pipe and everything. He wll get me in top speed but I am fast in a drag. Maybe its the way I ride.

Swap quads and race, then you will see the light.

yeah he isnt the fastest rider, if i'm on the trails or racing around the track and i'm stuck behind him i'm riding about 2ft vbehind him trying to push him up. Passing in the woods is hard lol
