Pit Board Strategy

What are some good pit board strategys? I race cross county and my girlfriend usually runs my pit board because she is the only one I can get to come watch a race. My friends all race with me. She really sucks at it, and I have tried to show her what to do. But she seems not to get the point. Im trying to get her to time me and let me know how far the leader and the guy in front of me is. She never gets the board up in time for me to look at it. Whats everyones strategy.

Just tell her to hold it chest high, and write "YOU COULD HAVE THESE IF YOU WIN!!!", or something along those lines:p That would shave a couple seconds/minutes off my lap times lol.
