First off, you would be looking at a 525 as the 500 is no longer made. The outlaw is a great overall quad. It is great in trails in in the woods. I have even taken it through some thick mud and have yet to get stuck. I also use it on the track and it jumps like a champ. One thing I dont like is it's inability to slide very well in the corners. Another problem was that the a-arm was rubbing inside the rim. I fixed that though by grinding some material off the a-arm. Other than that, this quad rocks!:D

I would still get the 525 because for the few extra hundred $'s, you get all that power!

good point, how many grease nipples are on the outlaw? is there anything that would need constant attention?

There are quite a few. Off the top of my head i can think of 2 on the swaybar, one on each a-arm, steering stem, hub carriers etc. These just need to be checked every so often. I just quickly go with a grease gun to every fitting after every ride but if can be done more sparsely than that.

You can never have too many grease zerks on a quad, but definately not have enough.

I bought an 07 500 yesterday for $5,000 the 525 was $7,000. I didn't get the 525 because 1 i didn't have the money and 2 even if i did i don't think its worth 2,000 more. SO the difference really isn't 300 like on the webpage.
