View Full Version : 250R frame problem on an XC quad...

I am trying to get the bugs worked out of my 330R before I try to really hammer down while xc racing. I'm having some trouble with the frame cracking down by the footpeg on the chain side.

I sandblasted this frame and checked it for cracks before I put this quad together. The frame was in good shape.

I have only ridden this at about 70% so far. I am afraid that I will completely break the frame if I ride it any faster.

What is the best way to reinforce this area of the frame? I don't plan to take it all apart and put a full gusset kit on. I'm looking for ideas on how I can reinforce this one area that is causing me problems.

Any ideas?

Does anybody have a close up pic of how this area should be reinforced? I did a search and found some pictures from beerock (?), but they were too small for me to see this area clearly.

you need to box the swinger gussets and have them extend down onto the large tube for the lower peg bolt.

Here's a pic of where I gusseted mine in the same location. I think this is what you're looking for. Although, it's kind of hard to see.

Here is a picture of my R, if you look closely you can see what it looks like a little better.

Just got my 86 frame back from bead blast and you can really see whats going on sans powder coat. So heres what i have to deal with. This frame has been welded(very poorly) and im ready to go to fabricate within the next day or so.So along with the ussual gussests we have to pull these welds and get something real going on here.Your "system" looks pretty solid so i will show these to my welder and we will go from there......any other tips?? thank you all!!!....J

bushwest be me to it :blah: thats exactly the type of gusseting i was talking about. works great but can be a lil time consuming to mock up but easy to weld in. this mod is a must if mx-ing and/or running nerf bars.

Sorry about that ;) But like 86 Quad R said, it is a little time consuming. There's a lot of prep work work involved to get all of the pieces to fit right. I mocked up some templates using paper board and then traced them on to steel plate, and then used short pieces of steel pipe for the part that covers the swingarm bolt. There's a lot of grinding, fitting, grinding, fitting, and then grinding some more. This was my first time doing anything like this, so if I can do it, you can too.

These were all done by 2R's from the "other R site." Have to give credit where credit is due. He does great work!

That is some seriously extensive bracing, but it looks great. ;)

thats my frame in the latter pictures, its hanging in my storage unit, untill I need the frame. I have his 88 frame on my 250r right now, its done the same way. He claims that on his 86 frames, he broke 3 swingarms without a single crack in the frame.
