I just finished the rebuild to my 400ex. It started up just fine and idles when it is cold. But when it warms up it stalls and won't idle. I checked the valve lash cold like it told me and it is in specs. I only know that it has a 155 main in it and that is it. Any ideas would be great thanks.

hmm.. do you have the airbox lid on?.. if so.. when its warmed up try taking the lid off and see if that does anyone..

its thats the case then drop down jet sizes.. I think stock is 148.. not sure though. hope someone can clarify..

Stock is a 148. I do have the air box lid removed with a K&N Air filter with a pre-filter and a outer wear air box lid (Just like the pre-filter). The main in it now is a 155.

is the quad stock or are you talking about the quad in your sig. b/c for a 440 kit the jetting sounds pretty lean to me. what size pilot you running. that might be lean also.

my motor is pretty much stock except for what's in my sig and i'm on a 40 pilot and a 165DJ main.

I was waiting to hear that, my boss said that should be good. Yes I am talking about the quad in my sig. I will have to see what size piolit is in it b/c I don't know.

yeah if it's a stock pilot #38. it may give it enough fuel to start and idle but when you let off the gas bam there's not enough fuel to let it run and it stalls.

let us know what size it is then we'll go from there.

I know this is going to sound stupid but check your spark plug and make sure its tight. mine was loose and it did the same thing. i would try that before messing with your jetting.

now that you say that when i was putting it together I didn't have my spark plug wrench and didn't have anything to tighten it with so i did it as tight as i could with my hands. My dad just got back from riding so I will have to get that tool from him.

Yea tighten that up.. also check for leaks and air leak.. Make sure you are getting enough fuel to the carb after a bit of running, and make sure you got the right jets.

yeah definately tighten down that spark plug before you damage the threads in the head. There should be a tool in your tool kit that came with the quad if you still have it.

yup that does make sense. cold it would run but once the metal heats up and expands you could be losing just enough compression around the threads to make it stall.

Where is the pilot at? I know where the main jet is, is it the jet under it?
