We own a Polaris 500 and I really like it. It is probably one of the smoothest riding quads I have ever been on. My grandparents have 4 of them and two have over 5,000 miles on them no problems.

I have ridden an 800 in the mountains and it has some crazy power. Has no problem climbing at high altitude (10,000+) especially with the fuel injection. It also is a very smooth running engine since it's a twin. Overall, it is a quad I would buy if I ever needed that much power.

Good Luck!

BTW: An aftermarket exhaust would look kicka** with the duals!

I have nothing against Polaris, I came really close to buying a 2006 Sportsman 500 a few months ago. All Polaris's are excellent machines, if you like to mud Polaris would be my first choice. I have never rode a 800 but if the 800's drive anything like the 500's I would defiantly purchase one.

one of my dad's good friends has an 800. They are tanks and there are no complaints about them except that they are really heavy but other than that, the power is great and the tranny is good too.

A guy I ride with has an 800, he said 500cc is more than enough for trail riding. He really only needs the 800cc when he takes it out on the sand.

My dad has one. Been a great machine. Tons of power and the ride is smooth. Only problem weve had is it sticks in 4wd sometimes. Usually we can rock it on pavement... going from Drive then stop go to reverse stop go to drive and it usually goes back to 2wd. Overall its been a great machine. And held up to the abuse I have put it through. Been in water over the bars and me takin it out on some decent sized jumps:p

its a tank but one of the best if not the best ute out, canams suck they can't even hold up to big tires unless you put lots of money into em

The Polaris is slow as balls, personally i hate it, my friend has one and has a prarie 650, the 650 will eat the thing alive.

If you do get one, or any quad with independent rear suspension, I recommend treating the CV Boots with a rubber treatment like a tire-shine. (I use Turtle Wax F21 Spray-On Foam). It works great for keeping the boots flexible and helps prevent them from drying up and cracking.... Just thought I'd throw that out there.

They can tow quad's pretty good, I should know one towed my banshee for almost a mile through my xc loops lol.. To me a Polaris is a ranch quad, all of their ATV's are owned by famous nascar drivers, ranch and farm owners.. The 4X4 line seem's to be geared towards the working aspect of ATV's vs overall rider performance.

I hate them to tell you the truth. They handle like poop, they have alright power, they like to eat belts like no tommorow.

I could go on and on why I hate my friends 800. GUess I am just addicted to teh handling of my king.

A friend of mine has one. He is an absolute idiot and does not take care of anything. With that being said, his 800 has been under water many times, it has 27" tires and never had a belt put on it. Its two years old and starts and runs perfect everytime.

Heres me on my brothers sportsman 500.I swear i dont think u can get it stuck.I have even flipped it down a hill and it broke about a $1000 worth of parts but it still started right back up after the oil drained back to the bottom of the motor. We havent had any problems out of it.

My riding partner Dave has one of these tanks. Good quality machine! The only drawback is it weighs a ton! Well almost a half ton anyway! He turned it over on its side and got it stuck with a fallen tree jammed between the foot rest and the handle bars and it took us an hour to get it uprighted again! Pretty fast for a tank and rides like a Cadillac. If I had to buy a ute I would own one! For those of you who are thinking of a Bombardier My other riding partner Tom twisted the frame in half by getting his front wheel stuck in a rut at about 20 mph. When he took it to the local dealer to get it fixed, they wound up totaling it! I wouldn't buy one! They have a weird channel type frame that doesn't hold up well!
