I just pulled the recoil starter(back-up pullstarter) out and it wouldnt go back in. Its an 2002 Racnher ES. Anyone ever have this problem and does anyone know how to fix. Any information would help. Thanks.

It's a common problem if you do alot of mud riding. Mud gets inside and dries causing the recoil to get stuck. It also rusts the recoil spring inside the pull rope casing. You should be able to take the pull rope casing off and clean the inside and get it working again. Spray a little wd-40 in there just to help keep things free inside. Good luck. Also, even if you don't do alot of mud riding water can get in there and cause parts to lock up or rust.

One more thing. If you have never worked on something like this before, be careful. The recoil spring can come out and fly all over the place. The best way to do it is take the recoil off and manually wind the pullrope back in. Once you get it in look at the part that the rope is wrapped around and you will see a grove that you can put part of the rope in. Take the pullrope handle and pull it out about a foot. Then hold the part that the pullrope is wrapped around and look where the pullrope goes through inside the casing and grab the rope( don't let go of the spool) take the little part of the rope and put it in the groove on the spool and unwind the tention off of the spool. If you do that you should be able to take the spool out without the spring popping out. Once you get the tention of you can take the bolt holding the spool out and clean everything.
