Elka has several different types of front shocks, ranging from nearly zero adjustment capabilities, to more than most non-competitive riders really need. Compression adjustment is the most common type of adjustment found on most aftermarket shocks. Compression clickers basically control the speed at which the shocks compress. Rebound adjustment is another type of adjustment that you will find, although it is typically only found on the top of the line model Elkas. Rebound controls the speed at which your shocks return to full extension. This is "dumbing" it up a little, but it gives you an idea. I would definitely refer to the link below, and or call Elka for better details.
Preload settings refer to your weight, and (I believe) to the height you want your quad to sit.
Piggyback & remote resevoir, describe the type of resevoir can that your shock comes with. Stock 400 shocks, do not have a resevoir attached. On aftermarket shocks, this resevoir contains a type of oil that helps alleviate the pressure in the shock chamber, and may give the rider a longer, more positive ride on his suspension, before the viscosity of the fluid in the shock breaks down. Think of the oil in the shock, just like a regular oil in your car. The hotter & longer you run your car, the quicker that oil will break down, and potentially not function as well. Same with a shock. The more compression and rebounds forced upon your suspension, the quicker the oil will break down, and lose it's functionality. Piggyback resevoirs come mounted directly to the shock body. Remote resevoirs are attached to a braided hose, and can be mounted to the frame at various locations on your front end. Read the link provided. Good luck.
