I was wondering if there was a seal on the oil filter cap. mine has a very very small amount of oil around the cap. maybe the seal on mine has a leak or is torn. this is not a problem cause its not rushing out. i noticed that it is alittle dirty around there.

I'm pretty sure there's a seal on the inside of the cover. Before you remove it I would check and make sure the bolts are on tight, and if they are, remove the cover to inspect the seal. It may just be dirty preventing it from sealing properly.

Theres a black rubber "O" ring. Not to be a hammer head but you know the bolts only get 7 lbs. of torque on them right? To much and you will crush the oring.

I'd be concerned with snapping the bolts too. It seems to be common for the longer one to break.

Also the o-ring could have been pinched at some point causing leakage.

thanks for all your help.

i bought it used from a dealer in december. i changed the oil and filter in march. the heads were on very tight and my dad had 2 help me get them off. when i put them back on i tightened them, but not like they were on before. ill be giving it another oil change soon so ill get a new o ring.

i just couldn't remember if it had an o ring since i only changed it once so far.

True, but that o-ring set-up will not "crush" the o-ring by over tightening it. The o-ring goes in the side case, not between it and the cover.

Also if you will get a Fram oil filter for it, it will come with a new o-ring.

There is an o-ring between the cover and the case, it is on the cover...

I know there is an o-ring, but you cant crush it by over tightening it.
