I'm going to buy myself a motorcycle, just a matter of time, and so I don't have to wait for my class c junior license. Looking for a good starter bike, something like the ninja 250r. i was also looking at the ninja zxr 250......practically impossible to find one or the next size up like a 600 honda cbr or something, or a ninja 650r since there cheaper than the cbr. don't know much about the r6, but it's a 600 so.......im looking for a good sport bike to start riding.........i don't get the same rush i had when i ride quads anymore, im not talking about a rush of speeding btw. now it seems the only time i find myself on my quad is expolring the backroads that lead to everywhere at night........which isn't that safe, im not drivng fast but.......a motorcycle would be better for me. any opinions?

This is just MY OPINION but I'd go with a 600..My first bike and I never rode one at all before I bought it was a ninja zx-7...I feel if you get a 250 you will want to go bigger after about 2 rides...600's have plenty of power .The main thing with a bike is NEVER let your gaurd up..There's a lot of really, really, really, bad drivers out there! Never underestimate someone doing something stupid ..but,yeah,I feel you can go with a 600 and be fine..cbr..;) when I had my zx-7 and a friend let me try his CBR 600 I liked the CBR better.....so I went and got a cbr 1000...:D

The 250 Ninja is like riding an XR100. Just thought you'd like to know.

Umm....no. XR100's don't go 110mph.:p The ninja 250 is probably your best be if you are looking at getting a newer bike to start on. They are fairly cheap and when, not if, you put it down you won't be out much.

A cbr/gsxr/ZX/R is not a beginner bike. One unexpected crack of the throttle = new casket. Honestly they arn't a beginner bike.

Go out or search the paper for an old suzuki GS (maybe a 450 or 650), Honda, or Kawi. You can get almost anything for under $1000 and log some good beginner miles.

i rode my btos r6 the other day and it wicked fast, it makes my 450 feel like a slug. but it also has a yoshimura slip on, dynojet efi tuner, k&n filter, steering stabilizer, and dyno tuned, it also puts out 97 hp at the rear wheel!

This isn't a bad suggestion.

I know several people that have gotten a bike for around $1000, and loved them. They're not cool sport-bikes like CBRs or GSXRs, but they are certainly enough to get out and ride, and they have a blast.

After a few months they are ready to move up to a larger bike, and they usually sell their old bike for the same price they bought it for.

zx 6r is very forgiving out of all the sport bikes. They are all VERY fast and the road will not give.

What about a ninja 500. They are very reliable and you should be able to find nice older ones for cheap all day long.

My personal favorite "starter bike" is the 88-91 Honda HawkGT (NT650). Wonderful bikes.
