I'm going to look at a 04 450r tomorrow. Anything I should look for specifics? He said its barely ridden, new holeshots on the rear, full skid plates, dropped a tooth on the front sprocket and had a hot start button put on. He wants 3500, I'm going to offer him 3000. Was there any major problems with this year that would be critical to it working properly?

Check the frame out really good, they crack a lot after hard use right about where the top of the subframe connects to the main frame. Or where the tube that holds the top of the rear shock connects to the frame. Rod bearings dont seem to last more than a couple seasons on these motors either from personal experience. Hotstart came standard on these too. Other than that use common sense, if its really nice looking chances are it was taken care of. Also check out for any signs of stress or crackign below the kickstarter and in that area behind the clutch cover, the broke a lot from people holding the gas wide open and kickign.

It sounds like it was well taken care of, but ill be sure to check the frame and the case. They arent know for the motors blowing up or anything that drastic right? I heard somewhere that the 04 yfz's smoked the motors a lot, really dont want to deal with that.

I just bought a 05 for 2200, so I would go even lower on the price:macho

$3000 is more than fair for a running 450... smithn1683's came with his motor completely disassembled...

The 05's are more notorious for crank bearings and some late 04's They are still one of the most reliable 450's IMO. the 04/05 450R is dee best!

depends on what year and what mods are done, they are pretty close though (close enough that the rider with more skill will win)
